The Role
The Director, Finance, JMP will be responsible for leading the strategic and financial planning, reporting and analysis for the organization. A seasoned leader, the Director, Finance will work with the CFO, JMP on all aspects of the financial management of the organization, including vendor and airline contract negotiations and risk management. In addition, the role will conduct financial analysis to identify opportunities to create and unlock value, balanced against the risks and economic environment, develop and report on key performance indicators, ensure accurate and timely production of monthly reports and forecasts, and closely monitor overall performance relative to plan and serve as the main point of contact between the JMP Finance team and the Vantage Group Finance teams. The Director, Finance JMP will communicate and present materials in a clear and concise manner, deliver meaningful information, analyses, and data in a timely fashion to support strategic decision making by utilizing their finance and accounting expertise, sound business acumen, and experience managing complex financial transactions.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in compliance with relevant standards, including collaboration with corporate accounting and corporate finance
- Review the financial statements prior to JMP CFO for review and sign off
- Provide requests for reports and or analysis to the appropriate members of the Vantage Support Services team, which includes Vantage corporate accounting, finance and treasury & risk management teams
- Provide timely feedback to the Corporate FP&A team on the Management/Board report
- Present financial performance and insights to the JMP CFO (and as requested by JMP CFO to other JMP executives/stakeholders)
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Lead the overall Business Planning and Budgeting through development of overall budget plan and managing timeline (including scheduling various kick-off and review meetings)
- Lead review of budget submissions from departments, with Corporate Manager, FP&A as support
- Lead consolidation of departmental budgets, and provide input and feedback on budget presentation materials to Corporate Finance and sign off on the finished product
- Monitor budget adherence and analyze variances Develop and manage both short and long-term financial models to monitor and forecast performance and work closely with the Manager Valuations & Modeling to maintain accurate and up-to-date short and long-term models.
AP/AR and Treasury
- Review and approve:
- Bi-weekly payment runs
- Monthly customer invoices
- Monthly LOC payments to the shareholders
Risk Management
- In collaboration with the JMP CFO:
- Engage in insurance renewals and work closely with the Support Services on insurance related matters
- Develop and implement the Enterprise Risk Management program
Team
- Provide ongoing guidance to the Support Services team members and drive team member engagement and motivation
- Utilize Support Services team members to deliver high quality work product in the requested and agreed timelines
- Work in a daily basis with the Support Services leadership to monitor and continuously improve the Support Services systems, processes and team member capabilities
Other duties as required or assigned from time to time.
Primary Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Finance or another related field. Experience in a regulated industry, such as aviation, is an asset.
- 15 years experience in Financial Planning and Analysis management and Corporate Development, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership role, building and leading high performing teams.
- Accounting or Finance designation preferred
- Solid knowledge of GAAP and IFRS
- Superior knowledge of Excel and analytical reporting tools
- Ability to work in situations with changing priorities and multiple, simultaneous assignments
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, meet deadlines timely and efficiently, and prepare detailed and accurate analyses
- Ability to work in a matrix organization and have a high degree of engagement with cross functional team members
- Excellent organization skills and detail orientation
- Proven track record of successful Finance project management and delivery.
- Solid understanding of budget development and oversight.
- Strong analytical skills for identifying trends and solving problems.
- Experience with ERP systems, particularly Microsoft Dynamics 365.
- Strong time management skills with an ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for building effective working relationships.
- Ability to work in a matrix organization and cross-functionally with impacted stakeholders
- Strong capabilities in reporting and analysis are matched by strong communication skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required; must be comfortable connecting and communicating with individuals at all levels of an organization
- Demonstrated team leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop team members for exceptional performance and contribution
- Ability to navigate ambiguous situations, bring options and provide recommendation
