JOB TITLE: Accounts Payable Associate
STATUS: Full Time (Non-Exempt), 230 Work Days Per Year
REPORTS TO: Fiscal Manager
PROGRAM: Vaughn NCLC Business Team
Organization Overview
Vaughn Next Century Learning Center (“Vaughn”), located in Pacoima, is a large urban public school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Since the early 1970s, low student achievement had been a pattern. In 1993, tired of being helpless and hopeless, Vaughn became the first conversion charter school in the nation and was authorized by LAUSD. The charter was renewed most recently in 2018. Vaughn has over 25 years of experience as a successful independent charter school serving the district’s low-income students. This previously failing elementary public school is now a full-service, community-based, K-12th charter school that assures all students are college/career ready, digitally literate, and globally competent.
Position Overview
The Accounts Payable Associate position is based in Vaughn NCLC’s Central Office in San Fernando, California. This position offers an accounting professional the opportunity to join one of California’s first independent, public, charter schools. In collaboration with the Fiscal Team, the Accounts Payable Associate assists in ensuring that public dollars are efficiently allocated and managed, all the while maintaining Vaughn NCLC’s commitment to quality public education for the students in our community.
Primary Responsibilities
Accounting:
- Coding and entering invoice and reimbursement information into the procurement system.
- Verify invoices for quantity, unit pricing, and applicable discounts
- Reviewing vendor invoices for fiscal compliance.
- Fulfilling check requests on a timely manner.
- Saving and maintaining vendor documents such as contracts, W-9s and other critical documents/schedules.
- Assisting in year-end close.
- Completing other duties as assigned.
Staff Support:
- Directly interface with charter school staff to address inquiries and provide process guidance.
- Assist in training school site office managers & assistants on procurement procedures.
- Visit client sites and assist with ad hoc or special projects as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Currently enrolled in college or university required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, related field, or equivalent training and experience strongly preferred
Experience:
- 1 year of experience in the field preferred.
- Knowledge of GAAP, business principles, and standard operating practices. Strong accounting background.
- Knowledge of accounting systems required. Knowledge of Netsuite preferred.
- Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Skills and Abilities
- Team player with a demonstrated ability to initiate and maintain effective and cooperative professional relationships.
- Strong organizational skills; a self-starter who can prioritize and multi-task.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Operate adding machine and calculator.
- Ability to work in a high-volume environment, processing 100 checks per week.
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Must be flexible and team-oriented
- Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
- Strong work ethic, accountability, and ownership of work
- Regular attendance, dependability, and punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this position

- $25.00 - $28.57

Additional Information
Upon receiving an offer of employment:
- Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan) with the Department of Justice (DOJ)
- Must provide a Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) clearance within 60 days of employment
- Will be assigned mandated state training to be completed prior to the first day of employment
