Summary:
The Manufacturing Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting and administrative processes at the corporate office and plant site offices. This includes supervising corporate accounting and administrative employees, preparing financial statements, implementing corporate accounting policies, and assisting the V.P. of Finance with significant financing and budgeting activities. The role involves identifying and addressing key financial, policy, and personnel issues.
Education, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business-related concentration.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting and supervisory experience, preferably in the wood products industry.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and analytical/troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems (Infor M3 preferred).
- High attention to detail and accuracy in office procedures.
- Strong 10-key and database management skills.
Essential Functions:Leadership:
- Set a positive example for employees and foster good morale and working conditions at the corporate and assigned location offices.
- Recommend and implement changes to improve efficiency, morale, or working conditions.
- Represent the company in a positive manner at all times.
Supervision:
- Support the Corporate Controller in managing 3-12 employees in accounts payable, payroll, receivables, and reception.
- Directly manage administrative and accounting employees at assigned locations, providing training, performance evaluations, and pay raise recommendations.
- Attend and contribute to scheduled meetings with corporate staff for open communication.
Policy Enforcement:
- Develop and maintain consistent accounting policies across divisions.
- Enforce company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Facilitation:
- Serve as a liaison between assigned locations and corporate leadership.
- Communicate issues and perceptions timely to appropriate management.
Staffing:
- Assist in identifying and maintaining appropriate staffing levels to ensure balanced workloads across teams.
Accounting:
- Financial Statements: Prepare monthly financial statements for manufacturing locations according to the corporate closing schedule.
- General Ledger: Maintain accurate and current ledgers, ensure proper coding, and complete reconciliations within 5 business days after the close.
- Intercompany Accounts: Ensure accurate intercompany accounting and billing.
- Fixed Assets/Depreciation: Maintain detailed records of property, plant, and equipment; prepare monthly depreciation reports and year-end audit schedules.
Other Responsibilities:
- Payroll Activities: Assist in the bi-monthly submission of payroll and benefits.
- Financial Analysis: Provide financial guidance and conduct operational and cost analyses as needed.
- Audit & Tax Support: Coordinate annual audits and prepare year-end schedules.
- Insurance Updates: Maintain accurate and updated insurance records for manufacturing property.
- Reporting: Use tools like ODBC, SSRS, AdHoc, and Excel to produce and maintain financial, production, and inventory reports.
- Perform additional administrative tasks as assigned by the Corporate Controller or V.P. Finance.
