VCS Engineering is a leading privately-owned engineering firm focused on the durability of structures. Founded in 2014 in Tampa, VCS acquired NDT Corporation in 2017, maintaining and expanding its NDT capabilities with the NDT Division office in Sterling, MA. In addition to the NDT Division, VCS also has a presence in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East. We are seeking a highly motivated, responsible, and organized Geophysicist to join our team of experts.
About the Role:
As a Geophysicist and a member of the NDT Division leadership team, you will play a critical role in expanding our geophysical NDT services within the civil engineering and concrete testing markets. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise and contribute to cutting-edge projects.
Responsibilities:
- Data Acquisition & Processing: Perform field data acquisition, process data using proprietary and commercially available software, and generate insightful reports with visuals.
- Report Writing & Presentations: Prepare clear and concise reports, presentations, and other digital deliverables.
- Field Survey Leadership: Lead a variety of geophysical surveys using our proprietary impact echo/pulse velocity system, ground penetrating radar (GPR), corrosion potential testing, magnetics, and traditional seismic methods for subsurface conditions such as seismic refraction/reflection and surface wave analysis.
- Proposal Writing: Prepare compelling proposals that clearly outline our services and value proposition.
- Client Engagement: Develop and maintain strong client relationships, understand their needs, and effectively communicate technical information.
- Technical Innovation: Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative geophysical techniques for civil engineering and concrete testing applications.
- Teamwork: Work effectively in small teams, collaborating with colleagues to achieve project goals.
- Physical Demands: The position requires working outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions, as well as the ability to perform physical labor and lifting associated with field instrumentation.
- Travel: 50-60% travel is required and at times may be on short notice. Work hours may vary while conducting field investigations.
- Bachelor's degree in Geophysics, Civil Engineering, Geology/Earth Sciences, or Physics.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in non-destructive evaluation of structures or geophysical field methods, preferably including seismic, electrical, or electromagnetics.
- Proficiency in wave theory and data processing using a variety of commercially available software.
- Proficient in programs such as Microsoft Office, Adobe, Google Earth, etc.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering and concrete testing applications of geophysical methods.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to understand and analyze technical/geophysical test data/information.
- Self-sufficient and capable of physical labor and lifting associated with field instrumentation.
- 40-50% travel is required and at times may be on short notice. Work hours may vary while conducting field investigations.
