Overview

We are seeking an experienced Vice President of Research & Development for the Visualization business unit to lead our team into the next phase of innovation and growth, with a particular emphasis on clinical relevance and product differentiation. This role will be integral in steering the R&D division, ensuring our products not only align with our strategic imperatives but also stand out in the market by addressing critical clinical needs and establishing a unique position. This role demands not only technical expertise but also leadership capabilities to manage a diverse team and align the R&D efforts with the overall strategic goals of the organization.

Responsibilities

·        Lead the R&D organization with a vision for unique products with differentiated value while anticipating evolving clinical stakeholder needs.

·        Own the vision and strategy for the product roadmap and develop new products and solutions while managing the phase gate process from ideation to commercialization.

·        Lead R&D team comprised of Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Systems, Test, and Human Factors engineers and Program Managers to deliver high quality medical devices

·        Manage resources, budgets, and timelines effectively, ensuring that R&D projects are executed efficiently and in alignment with strategic objectives.

·        Apply best practices for product development execution through structure, discipline, and leadership to drive speed and efficiency

·        Utilize creative problem-solving skills to drive program execution and problem solving personally with a bias for speed and urgency

·        Improve design control and product development processes for more velocity and efficiency in execution.

·        Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure cohesive product development and launch strategies.

·        Consistently demonstrate effective communication across internal cross-functional teams and external partners, ensuring aligned objectives and collaborative efforts.

·        Hire and develop top talent and cultivate a culture of innovation within the R&D team, ensuring alignment with our focus on clinical impact and product differentiation.

·        Set objectives, manage to objectives, and effectively assess performance; Build an environment of accountability and urgency

Qualifications

·        Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or System engineering is required; Master’s or PhD is preferred

·        Minimum of 15 years of progressive managing technical teams through product development life cycle either in consumables or capital medical devices

·        Demonstrated knowledge or aptitude for related technologies such as computing architectures, imaging and cameras, embedded systems and SW development

·        Excellent management skills and passion around developing technical talent

·        Minimum 5 years’ experience leading development efforts within a defined PDP and stage gate review process

·        Strong understanding of mandated regulatory and quality parameters within a heavily regulated industry (medical, telecom, etc.)

·        Successful track record of delivering instruments within a world class Design Control system

·        Excellent R&D departmental management skills and proven track record of delivering products on time and within budget

·        Deep understanding of mechanical, software, hardware engineering and systems integration

·        Proven experience partnering with external thought leaders and KOLs to ensure customer feedback is captured in product development process and roadmap 

·        Experience working with large OEMs and CMs to support manufacturing of high quality and high-volume products

·        Strong business acumen and communication skills with ability to interact at all levels and functions of the organization

·        Great communication skills and experienced in motivating a diverse team

·        Proven track record of successfully delivering programs through FDA pre-IDE evaluations, 510K certifications and related pre-market approvals is an asset
