Position Summary
Serving as a member of the Management Team, the Head of Readers & Information Services is responsible for providing effective leadership, support and direction to Librarians and Library Assistants within the Department. This position is responsible for the supervision of in-house programming, adult education, collection management, digital resources and the adult reference and reader's advisory services in conformance with library policies and procedures. The Head of Adult Readers & Information Services strategically plans, directs and manages the operations and fiscal health of the Department positively supporting the Library’s mission and goals.
What You’ll Be Working On
- Collaborates, plans, manages, and develops team; facilitates relationships across library departments
- Communication administrative policies, procedures, and rules to staff; monitors compliance
- Establishes goals, objectives, and development plans
- Observes, coaches, evaluates, and documents performance by monitoring completed work assignments and techniques
- Provides counsel and support to department staff in acquiring resources, resolving complaints, and meeting performance goals
Plans and coordinates department services and procedures- Statistical Analysis : effectiveness of collection management and shelf allocation;
- Evaluation: databases, material selection & budget,
- Programming: recreational programs and services for adults, program development,
- Collaboration: internal/external vendors, library departments, Management Team
- Evaluation: monitors collections and shelf allocation, department services to improve customer service,
Serves as a member of the Management Team and the Public Services Leadership Team- Serves as a liaison between the Library Director, Management Team, and Readers & Information Services Staff
- Library Knowledge: awareness of overall library functions, projects, and goals; develops and implements effective library policies and procedures
- Budget: prepares comprehensive annual department budget, including: library materials, equipment, programming, supplies, staff development, personnel costs and recommendations
- Strategic: identifies and recommends opportunities geared towards improving services and procedures
What You’ll Bring
- Minimum Education: Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLIS), Minimum of four (4) years of successful professional experience in a library
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful leadership experience in a library.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current public library philosophy, objectives, and practices
- Extensive knowledge of adult reference and reader’s advisory tools, techniques, and technologies in print and non-print
- Knowledge of current trends and usage of media and technology by the public
- Extensive knowledge and experience with design thinking, development of nontraditional collections, maker/creation opportunities for patrons
- Service-oriented attitude with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and the public in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the library
