Summary:
Assists Facilities Manager in a variety of tasks in the construction trades to include electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, carpentry, painting, masonry and drywall where essential soundness, code compliance and appearance are important. Responsibilities generally include repairing and maintaining utilities, building service equipment including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, interior and exterior walls, carpets, flooring, windows and doors. Provides support to the VA Research Services and repairs, alterations and maintenance of those facilities.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to, based on general instruction, planning daily activities, follows verbal instruction, interprets building plans & prints, and lay out minor projects.
· Reconfigures work areas by altering office partitions and work surfaces for changes in organizational requirements.
· Assists in building partitions insuring plumb and level, installs door/frame assemblies, matches existing textures and finishes with proper sealer and paint.
· Installs plumbing fixtures including sinks, faucets, water closets, valves, flushometers and drains.
Power washing exterior AC/R condensers, cleans interior drain pans, unit filter replacements, works on ladders and low-level platforms.
· Repairs salvageable office furniture including chairs, work surfaces, drawers, file cabinets, and modular partitions.
· Repairs and installs mosaic and ceramic tiles to floors and walls, including applying adhesives and grout
. Preforms carpet cleaning, soiled spot clean-ups, and fabric chair scrubbing.
· Repairs and replaces door locks, & deadbolts.
· Repairs and installs drywall using joint compound and wall surface prep other patching materials
· Must be willing to travel to various locations within San Diego County and use own vehicle.
· Experience with basic Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook email) is required.
· May perform additional duties as required.
May assist with troubleshooting HVAC problems including controls, motors, thermostats, dampers, Installing and electric circuits, conduit, receptacles, light switches, and fuses, running data lines in plenums and walls for IT installations, and facility master lock system.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED and at least one year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with basic Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook email) is required. Must possess and maintain a current, valid CA driver’s license and current, valid vehicle insurance that meets either of the following personal vehicle insurance coverage limits:
1. A combined single limit of $100,000 OR
2. A split limit with a minimum lower limit of $100,000
