Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Service Design Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will contribute to designing and facilitating co-creation sessions, conducting user-centered research, and creating innovative service solutions for government and citizen-focused initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply service design principles to complex challenges, delivering solutions that enhance user experiences and support mission-critical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Co-Creation Facilitation: Lead and support the design and facilitation of co-creation sessions, including immersion workshops, journey mapping, and service blueprinting.
- User Engagement and Research: Conduct and guide service design research activities such as observations, interviews, surveys, and diaries to gain deep insights into user needs and challenges.
- Design Challenges and Ideation: Frame design challenges, facilitate brainstorming sessions, challenge existing concepts, and envision innovative service design solutions.
- Rapid Prototyping and Evaluation: Develop, test, and refine prototypes that align with user needs and project objectives.
- Narrative Creation and Communication: Develop compelling narratives that articulate value propositions for citizens and government stakeholders through service models, customer journeys, storyboards, system maps, wireframes, and interactive prototypes.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be able to come to the office in the National Capitol Region once per week
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Centered Design, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- 0-3 years of experience in service design, user experience design, or related roles.
- Foundational knowledge of service design principles and research methods.
- Strong communication and storytelling skills to convey complex concepts effectively.
- Proficiency in using design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Miro, Figma) is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
- Current or past VA Badge or PIV card
- Experience facilitating workshops or co-creation sessions.
- Knowledge of user-centered design and human-centered research methodologies.
- Familiarity with prototyping tools and techniques.
