Position: Outreach Specialist I
Status: Non-Exempt, Full Time
Supervisor: Program Coordinator
JOB SUMMARY
The Outreach Specialist is a liaison between the community and Victory Village.
The specialist is responsible for generating intake volume via facilitating outreach - through street outreach efforts, partnerships with the Veterans Administration, veteran-centric programs community-wide, and continuum of care providers, and participation in community forums and table fair events, Stand Down events, landlord outreach, for the purposes of locating and assisting veterans with housing and benefits applications assistance, etc. The successful candidate will be motivated by a strong desire to help others succeed, a drive for accomplishment and the attainment of goals, a sense of urgency, a team (versus individual) orientation, and a high level of structure and detail-orientation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work assignments may vary and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by leadership
- Identify and interview participants, accessing their needs during street-level outreach and creating a pipeline for program intake.
- Complete set goals with a sense of urgency
- Network with community members and VA to ensure the program is marketed community-wide.
- Work with VA staff to inform them of the program and encourage referrals.
- Work with supervisor to develop fliers, and other materials to be used in outreach efforts.
- Provide services as needed, information and referrals, and schedule appropriate follow-up assistance with street-homeless participants.
- Work with other Victory Village staff and community agency partners in planning and advocating for participant needs including housing and benefits, transportation, and healthcare.
- Establish and maintain detailed outreach calendar in coordination with other agencies as necessary.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures for the program, accurately reporting as needed.
- Establish and maintain confidential case files, keep HMIS database entries current and ensure the accuracy of data according to requirements.
- Work cohesively with program staff to fulfill grant requirements regarding the number of individuals served and outcomes.
- Coordinate, facilitate, and attend meetings relevant to Veterans
- Attend staff meetings and training as required.
- Report any emergency situations/needs immediately to supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and support for all collaborative partners programs when interacting with participants, volunteers, and the general public.
- Embrace and demonstrate Victory Village's guiding principles of integrity, respect, accountability, compassion, and leadership in daily actions, words, and deeds.
- Work with staff to accomplish all outreach events.
- Coordinate Outreach with Outreach Specialist II.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of services for homeless family and veteran services
Familiarity with the Sierra Nevada foothills community, including mainstream social services, employment, and housing options.
Altruistic drive to help others succeed, balanced with a focused drive for the achievement of goals.
Ability to work effectively, compassionately, collaboratively, and efficiently with program participants, the public, staff, and volunteers.
Ability to communicate effectively and accurately verbally and in writing.
Outgoing, strong presentation skills, comfortable presenting information to groups in person or online
Ability to work efficiently without direct supervision
Organizational and time management skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated proficiency with basic computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and Excel as well as Adobe products.
Demonstrate a history of excellence in verbal, written, group presentation, and time management skills.
Reliable Transportation to travel for outreach.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS
Ability to stand, walk, drive, and work outside in streets and mountain terrain homeless camps (in the severe winter climate) for up to four hours per shift
Ability to work in office environment, seated and/or standing, with moderate office noise, up to eight hours per day
Visual acuity to discern data and information, and hand dexterity to enter information into computer systems.
