Position Summary:

The Zoning administrator performs a wide variety of duties in support of the Village of Farwell zoning ordinances; monitors and enforces a variety of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations related to zoning, and ordinances brought forth by the Village of Farwell Council. The Zoning Administrator serves as a resource and provides information on the Village's regulations to property owners, residents, businesses, the general public, and other townships, cities, villages and divisions.

Essential Job Functions:

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties that the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

1. The Zoning Administrator shall receive all applications for development or redevelopment under this ordinance. The Zoning Administrator shall review all applications, site plans, and other material for new developments, special exception permits, rezoning, and variances to ensure that all the requirements of the ordinance have been met. The Zoning Administrator shall then forward the necessary information to the bodies in charge of the requested action.

2. The Zoning Administrator shall approve site plans that comply with the requirements of the Village of Farwell Zoning Ordinance and any other applicable ordinances or statutes. If, in his or her discretion, the Zoning Administrator determines that a site plan may not comply with some legal requirement, then the Zoning Administrator shall forward the site plan to the Village of Farwell Planning Commission for review. In the event the Zoning Administrator declines to approve any site plan, the property owner shall have the right to request a review by the Village of Farwell Planning Commission.

3. The Zoning Administrator shall not refuse to issue a permit when conditions imposed by this ordinance are complied with by the applicant, despite violations of contracts, such as restrictive covenants or private agreements, which may occur upon the granting of such permit.

4. Review and recommend zoning ordinance amendments to the Planning Commission.

5. Attends Planning Commission meetings as needed.

6. Receive and answer questions of residents and co-workers as needed.

7. Maintain paper files and legal correspondence as required.

8. Provide a monthly written report to the Village Council, and attend Village Council meetings once a month.

9. Stop in the office to check in at least once a week.

10. Maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information being processed.

11. Perform related work as needed and other job duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

· High School Diploma or equivalent

· One year of work experience as a Zoning Administrator or equivalent (preferred).

· Ability to work constructively and interact professionally with other employees, property owners, renters, the general public, and various professional contractors.

Other Requirements:

· Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License

· Reliable Transportation with valid registration and current proof of insurance

· Attend training as required

Additional Information:

· The Village of Farwell will reimburse mileage according to the Mileage Reimbursement Policies currently adopted.

· This is a part-time position and shall not exceed a combined total of 15 hours per week, except court appearances that shall be approved by the Village President. The 15 hours are combined between the Zoning Administrator and the Ordinance Compliance Officer position.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

An employee in this position is required to work in indoor and outdoor environments; work alone; travel from site to site; the employee may be exposed to noise, dust, inclement weather conditions, and potentially hostile environments.

This position also spends time in an office setting with controlled climate where they sit and work on a computer or laptop; communicate by phone, email, or in person.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 15 per week
