As a Senior Commodity Manager, you will be responsible for leading specific commodity management strategies, contract management, supply risk mitigation, cost reduction, and quoting in support of the building of SpaceShips, MotherShips and Rocket Motors. As a sourcing leader you will be expected to develop solutions for identifying risks to the schedule and mitigating these risks to avoid schedule deviations. You will develop strategies to support our build and development plans. These strategies will include supplier level plans for development and execution of agreements and Purchase Orders. In addition, you will proactively maintain and track risks and opportunities and provide mitigation plans as needed in support of our supply chain and program needs leveraging your experience to help the team navigate challenges including market constraints, raw material availability and contract language.

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an action plan for the strategic execution of electrical and avionics programs or contracts providing for business management aligned with company strategies while serving as the point of contact for the Supply Chain team on strategy, execution, and performance.
- Provide project management and sourcing expertise to functional teams and cross-functional teams.
- Use presentation skills and leadership while interfacing with functional leaders and sites to assure clear alignment and support enabling success in meeting all goals, objectives, product development plans, product manufacturing schedules and product launches.
- Create program or contract road maps enabling the achievement of critical business targets as well as improving ease of business on a repetitive basis.
- Manage negotiations and contracting to reduce spend while ensuring high levels of service. Provides leadership for contract compliance and negotiation with suppliers and partners.
- Lead complex processes for Requests for Information, Requests for Proposal.
- Apply technical expertise, leadership skills and program management tenacity with an unwavering commitment to quality and safety to further the advancement of human spaceflight
- Develop supplier networks for key spend in the electronics categories (PCBA, Wire Harness, components); promoting cooperative relationships with suppliers and ensuring that all suppliers are treated in a professional, ethical and fair manner.
- Ensure that targeted financial savings are achieved within a framework of financial control and that new business savings are achieved incrementally year-over-year.
- Lead the development and execution of processes and procedures that will optimize Virgin Galactic’s position in terms of quality, response time, risk and total cost.
- Provide feedback and ideas for improvement of supplied materials
- Support/Request trade studies to develop business cases resulting in recommendations to support investment decisions
- Mitigate risk, leverage technology and purchase power and improve processes and systems.
- Lead by example through Virgin Galactic’s values, in with respect to straight-up way which fosters, transparent, and open communication.
- Experience in the aerospace industry including experience with low volume / high mix product lines, technology/development engagements
- Strong knowledge of contract structures (FFP, T&M, etc.), with an understanding of contractually imposed IMP/IMS, Earned Value, risk management and cost controls.
- Experience in contract negotiation, execution and management.
- Understanding of Product Development Process, Design Life Cycle, Configuration Management and Material Requirements Planning (MRP).
- Strong understanding of RFI, RFP and development of agreements/contract from proposals.
- Strong understanding of contract negotiation and management practices/methodology.
- Ability, willingness to travel up to 15% depending on business needs.
- 5 years industry experience in individual contributor leadership roles.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preference given to Supply Chain or Engineering degrees
- Energetic, passionate and organized leader ready to lead a team supporting complex factory planning
- Experience with complex supply chain management, production of aerospace vehicles, and introduction of electrical systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Experience with Oracle or ERP/MRP demand management systems
- Working knowledge of world class supply chain management practices.
- Strong knowledge of basic computer applications and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
- Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy and working under tight time deadlines.
- A strong understanding of Aerospace requirements, drawings, specifications, and manufacturing processes.
- 5 years’ experience in Commodity Management or Contract Administration.
