Job Summary: A medical billing associate, also known as a medical biller or insurance billing specialist, manages the financial relationship between a healthcare provider and their patients. They ensure accurate claim submission, securing timely payments and reimbursement for eye care services, including routine exams, surgical procedures, and specialized treatments. The role requires a strong understanding of ophthalmic coding, medical insurance guidelines, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Billing: Creating invoices for patients and submitting claims to insurance companies
- Prior Authorization and Eligibility and Verification: Completes the prior authorization investigation and verifies patient eligibility for services invoices.
- Managing payments: Collecting patient payments and updating patient information in the provider's system.
- Investigating claims: Following up on unpaid claims and denied insurance claims.
- Communicating with patients and insurance companies: Handling patient inquiries, explaining bills, and communicating with insurance companies to track payments and confirm coverage.
- Maintaining records: Entering payment information into a database and navigating electronic health records (EHR) and billing software.
- Staying up to date: Keeping current with healthcare regulations, medical terminology, and coding practices.
- Reporting: Tracking, reviewing, and reporting on billing metrics, trends, and periodic audits.
Qualifications:
- Medical Billing Experience, Ophthalmology preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10, and procedure codes.
- Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and medical billing software.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, over the telephone, and in person.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize with excellent time management skills.
