Overview:Visionary Solutions is seeking a skilled and motivated Tier II NOC Technician to join our dynamic Network Operations Center (NOC) team in Herndon, VA. The ideal candidate will be experienced in troubleshooting and resolving complex network and system issues, have strong knowledge of network protocols, and be capable of supporting and mentoring Tier I technicians. This position plays a key role in maintaining the integrity and performance of enterprise IT infrastructure in a mission-critical environment.
Responsibilities:· Resolve complex technical issues escalated from Tier I support, including root cause analysis and permanent resolution strategies.
· Monitor and respond to network/system alerts via enterprise monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Cisco ISE).
· Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks.
· Remotely assist users with device setup, configuration, and troubleshooting for desktop, server, and mobile hardware.
· Collaborate with engineering teams to implement network upgrades, configuration changes, and software deployments.
· Assist in the administration of Linux and Windows-based systems.
· Document incidents, changes, and procedures accurately in ticketing systems such as ServiceNow.
· Provide technical mentorship, training, and documentation to Tier I helpdesk personnel.
· Assist in evaluating, testing, and deploying new network systems and security appliances.
· Participate in 24/7 shift rotations, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure continuous operations.
· Effectively communicate technical issues and solutions to users, team members, and senior engineers.
Required Education and Experience:· High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Networking, or related field preferred.
· 4 years of hands-on experience in a Network Operations Center (NOC) or similar technical support role.
· Strong understanding of networking technologies, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, NAT, VPNs, and STP.
· Experience with enterprise tools like SolarWinds, Cisco ISE, and ServiceNow.
· Proficiency in Windows and Linux server environments.
· Current Security CE certification required.
· CCNA or JNCIA-Junos certification required.
· Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
· Willingness to work flexible shifts outside traditional hours.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in translating technical issues for non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:· Experience using automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or scripting in Python for network tasks.
· Advanced certifications such as CCNP, JNCIS, or equivalent.
· Experience with ITIL framework and structured troubleshooting methodologies.
· Strong familiarity with cybersecurity best practices in network environments.
· Experience supporting federal, defense, or intelligence community customers.
Possible Shift Schedules:
10-hour shifts 4-3-3-4 Same Shift
Morning Shift: 6:00 am – 4:00 pm
Day Shift: 10:00 am – 8:00 pm
Night Shift: 8:00 pm – 6:00 am
Physical Requirements:
The work is performed in an office environment and is primarily sedentary in nature. The individual must remain stationary for prolonged periods and alternate between different stationary positions. The individual must also be able to move about the office at times. This position requires the ability to communicate frequently. This position may occasionally require the ability to ascend stairs, reach, stoop, kneel, lift light to medium objects, view and operate a computer, keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment, and withstand moderate noise and temperatures.
This position requires shift work to maintain operational needs 24/7. Individuals must be available to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure access to mission-critical work and end-users at all times.
