Position Overview

Visit Carlsbad is seeking a dynamic and collaborative Vice President to lead our Sales and Business Development team and drive long term growth in meetings and international travel trade business. As the Vice President of Sales and Business Development, you will guide company-wide initiatives, establish the organization’s objectives and strategies, and ensure the success of business development team members and programs.

The Vice President of Sales and Business Development is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the President & CEO.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for the ongoing management and professional development of Business Development Manager, Business Development Associate and potentially an Assistant / Coordinator.

Establishes annual goals for all team members and develops progress check-ins to ensure goals are on track.

Develops annual objectives, strategies, tactics, and budget. Adjusts as necessary to remain proactive and competitive.

Establishes accountability and strong relationships with hotel partners and leads quarterly sales and marketing meetings with hotel partners to collaborate and report on successes and pivots.

Communicates regularly with senior level partners and external stakeholders regarding Visit Carlsbad’s activities and opportunities and ensures their appropriate participation and support.

Identifies and pursues major meetings and conference business opportunities from identified markets.

Oversees and iterates programs to stimulate meetings bookings during need months.

Scouts signature events to be hosted in Carlsbad, facilitating site selection, and collaborating with team members on event grant processes.

Collaborates with VP Marketing and Communications on meetings and international travel trade marketing strategies.

Forecasts and identifies trends, patterns, and obstacles that could negatively / positively impact the ability to achieve Visit Carlsbad’s objectives.

Identifies gaps in departmental operations, procedures, and reporting. Recommends and implements solutions and resources needed.

Business travel is estimated to be 3 to 5 times per year for a duration of 2-5 days per trip.
