Your Role:

The Food Safety & Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the implementation of all the company’s policies, procedures, and activities involved in producing high quality products. They will maintain close working relationships with leadership and crew to support producing a high-quality product.  This Supervisor will help identify, solve, and prevent problems affecting product food safety, quality, productivity, and regulatory compliance. The Food Safety & Quality Assurance Supervisor will report directly to the Quality Manager.

What You'll Do:

  • Support implementation and administration of quality programs (GMPs, Good Hygiene Practices, HACCP, Allergen Control, Cleaning and Sanitation, Pest Control, Equipment Calibration, Organic Certification, etc.) to ensure compliance.
  • Support development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF System.
  • Supervise and direct the hourly quality crew members by handling payroll, work assignments, evaluations, and coaching.
  • Performs beginning and end-of-shift facility walk-through/audit to ensure compliance, cleanliness, upkeep, and completion of sanitary obligations.
  • Proactively share knowledge, identify opportunities, and make recommendations to improve quality and work efficiency.
  • Review Production Batch Records and other manufacturing-related documents to verify compliance and record keeping for all mandated manufacturing processes, quality checks, testing, sampling, and sanitation activities.
  • Audit quality control of raw materials, packaging components, labels, and finished products to ensure compliance with established specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in the coordination of testing results involving finished products, raw materials, and packaging components and the appropriate release and hold programs associated with these materials.
  • Oversee the “On Hold” product program, including the status, release, and destruction of “Rejected” products.
  • Assist in investigating and correcting quality-related issues (including customer complaints) through collaboration with other departments.
  • Plans, manages, and directs plant sanitation procedures, programs, and regulatory requirements, ensuring all plant equipment is clean and safe for production. Ensures compliance with all standard operating procedures. 
  • Collaborates with ECS leadership to discuss quality and sanitation improvements, customize, and document plant procedures related to approved cleaning chemicals and cleaning schedules. 
  • Mentors and motivates the crew, providing training and development to optimize their performance and personal growth. Communicates performance standards to the crew, recognizing and rewarding individual and team accomplishments and counseling performance concerns. Ensure all crew have the resources and capabilities to effectively accomplish their responsibilities. 
  • Monitors microbiological reports from the plant to determine whether cleaning procedures are being followed. Implements corrective action as necessary. 
  • Direct responsibility for the maintenance and recording of company KPI’s.
  • Participate in all regulatory, third party and customer audits and inspections, and corrective action responses.
  • Monitor the accuracy of reporting through comparison of Quality Dashboard and inventory management system counting sums.
  • Maintain accurate training records for quality.
  • Act like an owner and assist with projects as assigned.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with Quality and Manufacturing
  • A strong knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices, preferably 21CFR Part 117, and food safety.
  • HACCP certification and PCQI certification are preferred.
  • Allergen Control training, 21CFR Part 117 training certification, and SQF Systems training are preferred.
  • Knowledge of 21 CFR Part 118 Shell eggs and egg products requirements for egg handling, processing, and transportation to ensure safety and prevent contamination is preferred.
  • Understanding of quality testing within the food manufacturing industry.
  • The ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and make effective decisions.
  • Basic computer knowledge (Microsoft Office applications) and computer-based applications.
  • Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to details.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate ideas (verbally and in writing), be a self-starter and handle difficult situations.

At Vital Farms, compensation decisions are dependent upon a variety of factors, which may include, but are not limited to, skill level, experience, education, training, market demands, and business needs. A reasonable estimate of the current starting annual base salary for this position is $65,000 - $75,000. Please keep in mind that hiring at the maximum end of the range would not be typical in order to allow for potential continued future salary growth.
