Job Summary
The Substance Abuse Counselor plays a vital role in providing support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance abuse issues. This position involves assessing clients' needs, developing treatment plans, and facilitating therapeutic sessions to promote recovery and well-being. The counselor will work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and families to ensure a holistic approach to treatment.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients to determine their substance use history and treatment needs.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and client goals.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based practices, including behavioral therapy.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collect and analyze data related to client progress and treatment outcomes.
- Collaborate with medical staff, social workers, and other professionals to coordinate care for clients.
- Educate clients and their families about substance abuse, recovery processes, and available resources.
- Stay informed about current research and best practices in substance abuse counseling.
Requirements
- Trainee Status, Associate’s, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Social Work, Professional Counseling, Behavioral Health Counseling or a related field.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with ICD-9 coding is preferred.
- 1 year experience in substance counseling
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality.
- Proficiency in EHR methods and research practices related to substance abuse treatment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment while also demonstrating strong independent judgment.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
