Job Summary:
A tooling pre-setter is responsible for accurately measuring and setting up cutting tools on a dedicated presetting / shrinking machine before they are used on a CNC machine, ensuring precise tool dimensions and geometry are recorded to optimize production efficiency and quality by minimizing machine downtime for tool changes and adjustments on the production floor; this often involves tasks like inspecting tools, setting tool offsets, managing tool inventory, heat shrinking, and maintaining accurate documentation of tool data.
Essential functions:
Tool Measurement:
Accurately measure tool dimensions (length, diameter, radius) using a tool presetting machine, including features like the cutting edge and tool holder position.
Data Entry:
Input precise tool measurements into the CNC machine control system to ensure accurate tool offsets are set.
Tool Inspection:
Visually inspect tools for wear, damage, and proper functionality before setting them up.
Tool Inventory Management:
Maintain accurate records of tool usage, life cycle, and inventory levels, identifying when tools need to be replaced.
Tool Preparation:
Clean and properly secure tools in appropriate holders prior to setting them on the presetting machine.
Calibration Checks:
Regularly verify the accuracy of the tool presetting machine and measuring equipment.
Changeover Support:
Assist production teams by providing pre-set tooling for machine changeovers in a timely manner.
Troubleshooting:
Identify and resolve any issues encountered during the tool presetting process.
Qualifications:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of CNC machining principles and operation
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
- Basic computer skills for data entry and managing tool inventory
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to adhere to company safety standards
Miscellaneous:
- Monday to Friday 7am to 315pm
- Onsite- Columbus, Ohio
- Permanent/Full Time
- Overtime and weekends may be necessary
- Reports to Manufacturing Engineer
- Starting pay $25.00
