JOB TITLE: Controller
REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer
OVERVIEW OF ROLE: Responsible for the financial and accounting functions of the company including the preparation and interpretation of financial reports.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for ensuring that monthly financial statements are prepared by the designated due dates. Perform analysis of the statement and provide the information for management review.
- Assist management with long-range planning by providing past financial information, analysis and forecasting when appropriate.
- Assist with cash management program. Reviews the daily cash picture and working capital line of credit.
- Assist with the annual budget and supporting documentation.
- Responsible for the paying of all depreciable asset purchases – includes the analysis of invoices for proper payment method and setting up on the depreciation program.
- Responsible for the analysis, accruing, and on-time payment of all Federal and State income taxes and the monitoring of all related tax returns.
- Analyze and insure timely filing of all required annual financial reports.
- Personally handle financial problems of a significant, critical or confidential nature.
- Handle assignments and special projects as requested.
- Responsible for working with and coordinating information flow with outside accounting firm.
- Responsible for the handling and coordination of third party audits including but not limited to the IRS, workers compensation (financial aspects), and the multi-state taxing authorities.
- Supervise the Accounting department and give instruction, guidance and coaching when appropriate. Utilize effective delegation to ensure that projects are completed on a timely basis.
- Assist and advise in the financial aspects of the various self-insurance areas (including medical, group life and disability, etc.) as they relate to the financial statements.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in accounting and at least five years accounting experience preferred.
- Five years experience in the motor carrier industry preferred.
- Excellent analytical and computer skills.
- Discretion in handling confidential financial information.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
