What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Access Float Specialist position at Washington County Hospital and Clinics?
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for greeting and directing incoming patients or representatives. The patient access float specialist interviews and records information required for services. Operates multiline phone system for incoming calls and transfers appropriately. Uses electronic medical record (EMR) to document and update patient demographics and billing information required for services.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following)
- Interview patients or their representative to collect and update electronic records to reflect changes in patient demographics and insurance information. Obtain required signatures according to established procedures and ensure information is recorded, accurate and complete.
- Collect upfront payments, co-pays or balances from patients.
- Pre-registers patients for scheduled procedures and/or services.
- Direct all incoming phone calls to the appropriate personnel or department
- Check team tasks to ensure they are completed in a timely manner.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Previous customer service experience is required.
- General knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- High School degree or equivalent preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills in order to acquire needed information and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and patients.
- Must have strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Perform duties in an effective and organized manner with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Possess strong and effective computer skills.
- Ability to work closely with internal and external departments.
