JOB DESCRIPTION
I. Identification:
Department: Business Office
Title: Patient Accounts Representative
Responsible to: Business Office Manager
Position Description
A. Summary:
Responsible for the collection of private pay accounts and patient portions after insurance has paid.
B. Primary Responsibilities:
1. Deals directly with patients in collection of accounts owed.
2. Sends weekly statements
3. Sets up patient payment arrangements and monitors for payment.
4. Handles charity applications per charity guidelines.
5. Handles bankruptcies.
6. Handles employee payroll deduction agreements for AR accounts.
7. Deals directly with collection agency on a daily basis.
8. Prepares delinquent accounts for turning to collection agency.
9. Prepares accounts for legal pursuit through the collection agency.
10. Represents hospital in legal proceedings dealing with collections.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
C. Qualifications:
1. High school education or GED.
2. Typing (45 wpm).
3. Working knowledge of CRT, and functions of computer system.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills.
D. Personal Requirements:
1. Possess an ability to work with other employees under variable workload conditions.
2. Demonstrate ability to follow written and oral instructions.
3. Is well-groomed and neatly dressed during working hours.
4. Receives and gives constructive correction and suggestions in an acceptable manner.
5. Presents a congenial, conscientious attitude to the public.
III. Requirements of the Position:
A. Physical Effort:
1. Ability to work on CRT.
2. Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during work hours.
B. Mental Effort:
1. Capable of performing job functions without constant supervision.
2. Ability to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the hospital.
IV. Responsibilities to the Department and the Hospital:
A. Respect and maintain confidentiality.
B. Understand, support and demonstrate the policies and procedures, and the philosophy of the department and the hospital.
C. Maintain a current knowledge of the safety and disaster plans for the department and the hospital.
D. Meet department and hospital standards for attendance, punctuality, and job performance.
E. Work hours assigned.
V. Dress Code:
A. Hospital’s general policy of dress applies to the Business Office.
