Washington County Community Corrections is now hiring multiple Transition Program Coordinators to join our transition team. We have both bilingual openings, requiring Spanish and English fluency, and nonbilingual openings.

The Department
Washington County Community Corrections serves an important role in keeping our community safe. This department works to prevent the recurrence of crime among adult justice-involved individuals (JIIs) by supervising them and connecting them with the resources they need to change problem behavior. Community Corrections supervises approximately 3,000 JIIs using evidence-based strategies while working in partnership with the courts, law enforcement, and the State Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision.

The Opportunity
The Transition Program Coordinator provides life skills support and program supervision to JIIs in a residential correctional program. This position screens for admission to the program, orients newly admitted residents, conducts needs assessments, develops case plans, maintains caseload records of residents, and monitors their probation compliance while in the program. 

This position has a schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. However, workdays, hours, and location may vary based on department needs.

Our Ideal Candidate will be experienced in case management, assessment, and evaluation of adults in a residential setting. They have excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills and will approach their work with integrity. A successful candidate will have a commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout the department and countywide, and actively promote an environment that is respectful of living and working in a multicultural society. Although not required to be considered, knowledge of the criminal justice system in Oregon is preferred. 

Bilingual Positions 
Designated bilingual positions require that the incumbent have knowledge of the Spanish language, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Skills in writing Spanish accurately; ability to speak Spanish fluently; and ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing are required. An additional $75 per paycheck is provided to employees occupying positions designated as bilingual.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, corrections, counseling, or a related field; AND one (1) year of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field; OR
  • Associate's Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, corrections, counseling, or a related field AND two (2) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field; OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a background investigation in accordance with Oregon Administrative Rules and Community Corrections Departmental procedures and guidelines.
  • Must be able to pass a psychological evaluation in accordance with Community Corrections Departmental procedures and guidelines.

  2. Minimum Qualification Review: HR will screen applications for minimum qualifications after the posting closes.
  3. Subject Matter Expert Review:  Applications for candidates that meet minimum qualifications will be forwarded to a panel of subject matter experts who will review and score your answers. This process may take up to 2 weeks.
  4. Panel Interview(s): Panel interviews will be scheduled for the top candidates who successfully pass the SME screening as soon as possible.
  5. Conditional Offer of Appointment: Human Resources will conduct a salary analysis for the successful candidate and extend a conditional offer of appointment.
  6. Post-Offer Check: The successful candidate will undergo a background and criminal history check, DMV record check, and a psychological evaluation. Bilingual candidates will take a Spanish Language written and oral proficiency test. 
  7. Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
