Position Summary:
The English professional faculty position is a full-time faculty position that includes instruction, office hours and professional contributions to the college community to create an innovative and engaging learning environment.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach first-year college-level composition courses, including co-requisites designed for students whose placement data indicate a need for extra support. (ENG 111 Composition I and 111S Composition I Supplemental Support)
- Serve as faculty lead for ENG 111. This includes assessing and regularly updating course syllabi and Canvas sites in all modalities, and ensuring the course maintains transferability. This also includes onboarding, training, and mentoring ENG 111 part-time faculty.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to assess and regularly update course syllabi and Canvas sites for Eng 111S in all modalities.
- Sharing instructional materials in English/Writing with part-time and full-time instructors.
- Teach a diverse student body in daytime, evening, and if needed weekend classes in person; develop and teach online courses as needed.
- Syllabus writing, textbook selection, and curriculum planning and development
- Participate in program level learning assessment, which includes helping articulate learning outcomes, choosing and administering measures, collecting and submitting relevant data, evaluating student performance, and suggesting changes to improve student learning.
- Work with other faculty and administrators in program marketing.
- Provide leadership in identifying trends and working with other faculty to develop new curriculum to address these trends.
- Participate in department, division, and general faculty meetings, applicable college committee activities, and other forms of college service.
- Remain current in academic or program discipline, including attending professional conferences, and maintaining licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements where appropriate.
- Participate in college professional development activities and stay current in technological or pedagogical advances that promote student learning.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Masters’ degree in English or English Composition.
- Equivalent of two (2) years of full-time successful teaching experience at the community college level or higher.
- Demonstrated commitment and experience in teaching and supporting diverse students.
- Recent, successful, post-secondary experience utilizing a co-requisite model for teaching developmental writing.
- Experience with online teaching
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated strong background in the theories and practices of teaching writing and reading to adult learners.
- Experience teaching in Canvas
