Position Summary:
The Health Sciences (CNA) instructor is a full-time faculty position responsible for providing high-quality instruction in the Health Sciences division, with primary teaching responsibility within the Certified Nurese Aide (CNA) program. This position is also responsible for the Nurse Aide Training Program coordination with dual enrolled high school students, and teaching lecture, lab, and clinical to the standards of the State of Michigan approved Nurse Aide Training Programs.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Nurse Aid Training Program Coordination
- Provide lecture/lab/clinical instruction per the Michigan State Nurse Aide Training Program model.
- Provide input into hiring and evaluating part-time faculty
- Oversee program and class schedules each semester
- Collaborate with the Admissions Office to evaluate and screen program applicants
- Oversee and manage program supplies
- Serve as liaison with clinical agencies
- Assist in program promotion, recruiting, and marketing, including high school site visits
- Perform course and program assessments per college guidelines
- Maintain Michigan State requirements for NATP renewal and submit program renewal applications every two years
- Oversee Headmaster CNA training and testing protocols
- Communication with students’ counselors regarding grades, attendance, and behavior concerns
Health Science Instructor
- Prepare for and instruct assigned course(s) through the use of appropriate learning experiences and materials which provide the opportunity to meet overall course objectives and program goals
- Evaluate student progress through day-to-day evaluation, written examinations, and overall observation
- Establish and maintain a safe classroom/laboratory/clinical environment conducive to student learning
- Participate in high school parent-teacher conferences, open house events, and community partner events
- Participate in professional activities, which could include, but are not limited to, curriculum planning, examination development, textbook selection, program evaluation/revision, and other professional planning activities
- Participate in department, division, and general faculty meetings, applicable college committees, and other forms of college service
- Maintain levels of professional knowledge and expertise, including compliance training
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
- Current Michigan Registered Nurse License in good standing
- Previous work experience includes one (1) year in an extended care facility or hospice
- Ability to secure a Current State of Michigan Nurse Aide Trainer permit within one month of hiring date.
- Ability to teach online, blended, and face-to-face
- Ability to teach a flexible schedule that may include some weekends
- Ability to appropriately use standard office and instructional software and tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication and time management skills

- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree
- Current State of Michigan Nurse Aide Trainer permit
- Curriculum and assessment experience, including distance learning and online course
- American Heart CPR and First Aid instructor certification
