What are the responsibilities and job description for the Billing Clerk position at Water Utility Management?
You will be responsible for keeping track of money owed to us by customers, preparing invoices and updating records. As a billing clerk, you must be accurate and reliable in handling accounts and documents. Being good at math and a high degree of organizational ability are essential due to the great amount of financial information. Since you will be using technology to expedite your work, a degree of computer knowledge is required. The goal is to contribute to the accurate preparation of bills receivable and safeguard the company’s income.
Responsibilities
- Assisting the Billing Dept. to accurately and timely process all bi-monthly water utility billing statements.
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies or work with customer service regarding customer complaints in a timely manner and professional manner
- Data entry of meter reads into the Tyler ERP Pro billing system
- Process leak adjustment requests submitted by customers
- Process meter change outs and ensure meter information is accurate
- Check the data input in the billing system to ensure accuracy of final bill
- Assist the accounting department with other accounting-related duties, projects, and correspondences as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 2 years of experience as a billing clerk (preferred)
- Prior experience in accounting or customer service (utility billing experience a plus)
- Proficient in MS Office to include Excel; Working knowledge of relevant software (e.g. Tyler ERP Pro 10) will be appreciated
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers and colleagues, especially in sensitive situations involving service interruptions.
- Data entry skills with the ability to type at least 40 wpm
- High school diploma; associate’s degree in accounting, Business, or related field preferred)
