SCOPE OF POSITION:

Responsible for leading and strategizing for all surgical services and specialty services and is a direct report to the Chief Operating Officer. The position ensures high-quality patient care, compliance, positive financial outcomes, physician relationships, staffing collaboration and operational efficiency. Over sees daily operations for the Operating Rooms, ambulatory surgery, sterile processing, GI, radiology, cardiac rehab, diagnostics, and stress lab. Responsible for driving operational growth of the orthopedic and cardiac service lines by developing strategic initiatives, optimizing resources allocation, enhancing clinical quality and patient satisfaction. Collaborates amongst multidisciplinary teams within the service lines. Maintains operational flow and administers relevant quality assurance policies, procedures, and practices as well as program development initiatives.

This position is a member of the Senior Leadership Team, participates as an Administrator on Call (AOC), other related duties, and coordinates closely with peers and other key management personnel on projects and initiatives to grow the service lines and to improve related operations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for surgical services aligning with the organization’s goals and vision. Includes but is not limited to evaluating surgical service and specialty service lines are structured with the appropriate service line leader, physician leader, and coordinator/navigator to provide staff within each service line with the requisite leadership to pursue assigned patient care initiatives and improvement in patient care experiences.
  • Oversee daily operations of all surgical specialty service departments including but not limited to operating rooms, pre/post operative care, sterile processing, and ambulatory surgery
  • Drives standardization and reduces clinical variation, where possible, to ensure high quality care
  • Defines and facilitates the establishment and implementation of patient care standards including clinical practice guidelines, policies and procedures, and tools to facilitate evidence-based practice that meets all applicable rules and regulations as well as applicable accreditation standards.
  • Support growth of future surgery related service lines including but not limited to robotics, neurology, digestive health, urology, as well as applicable men’s and women’s health services.
  • Develop and maintain a close relationship between surgical service lines and case management/social work to improve the patient care experience
  • Drives process improvement to increase employee engagement and physician satisfaction
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care through the implementation of evidence-based practices, clinical guidelines, and regulatory compliance to improve clinical outcomes
  • Participates in rounding with patients and meeting with physicians and staff to ensure a high quality patient experience.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of healthcare professionals, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment
  • Fosters collaboration between nursing and physicians to develop positive working relationships
  • Manage applicable budgetary requirements ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost effectiveness.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, productivity, and patient experience.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and accreditation requirements
  • Work collaboratively with surgeons, physicians, and other healthcare professionals ensure seamless patient care.
  • Lead and facilitate business planning processes and creative strategies for new program development and promote services to physicians and patients
  • Track key performance indicators and utilize data to drive continuous improvement.

                                   

 

 

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, or a related field
  • Minimum ten (10) years of successful and progressive experience in a healthcare system or hospital leadership
  • Minimum five (5) years of leadership experience managing a variety of patient care services in a complex surgical services and healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of surgical operations, hospital service lines, and nursing practices
  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of hospital surgical services regulatory compliance
  • Strong understanding of surgical services, regulatory requirements, and healthcare operations
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Technology proficiency in EHRs and communication tools (email, Teams, Zoom, etc.)
  • Current and valid license as a registered nurse
