JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Plant Supervisor
JOB TYPE: Exempt
JOB LOCATION: Millwork
POSITION SUMMARY
The Plant Supervisor oversees manufacturing and assembly operations in the Machining/Mill End work area to meet production schedules while maintaining established company policies, quality standards, and safety practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Supervision & Training:
- Schedule and train production personnel to meet production goals.
- Approve and monitor paid time off for direct reports.
- Conduct daily huddles, safety, and production meetings.
- Counsel employees, address suggestions and concerns, and enforce accountability for scrap, quality, production goals, housekeeping, and safety.
Production Oversight:
- Ensure machines function properly and outputs meet specifications.
- Maintain part flow to ensure timely and efficient production.
- Monitor shortages and load factors per loading crew.
- Ensure on-time and complete shipment of orders.
- Maintain accurate records in the ERP system (e.g., inventory, labor).
- Oversee production of QC-approved parts.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and address issues to minimize downtime.
Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce compliance with company policies and safety guidelines.
- Maintain a safe work environment and uphold quality standards.
- Write injury reports and transport injured employees to the hospital, if necessary.
- Monitor plant fire, weather protection, and alarm systems.
Process Management & Improvement:
- Maintain OTC (On-Time Complete) with minimal backorders.
- Ensure adherence to company policies.
- Collaborate with process engineering on department improvements.
- Maintain organized and clean workstations while following departmental cleanup processes.
- Encourage maximum efficiency and productivity of the workforce.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Exhibit extensive product knowledge.
- Request materials necessary to maintain production.
- Perform other duties as required or directed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Strong leadership, coaching, and performance management skills.
- Effective decision-making, problem-solving, and adaptability.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of products, procedures, and manufacturing processes involving wood, vinyl, or metal.
- Familiarity with safety practices and quality standards.
- Proficiency in planning, organization, and ERP systems.
- Strong math skills and ability to work with computerized information systems.
- Excellent people skills, with a focus on employee motivation and accountability.
- English/Spanish Bilingual a plus
EDUCATION
- College education with supervisory/management coursework or equivalent experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
- Training in supervision is required.
- Window and Door experience is a plus.
EXPERIENCE
- 2 years in a leadership role preferred.
COMPUTER SKILLS
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and internal software systems (e.g., AS400, JDE, Citrix, etc.).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Finger dexterity to operate necessary equipment.
- Ability to talk, see, and hear clearly.
- Walking, sitting, bending/stooping, and pushing/pulling as required.
- Minimal unassisted lifting of up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
College education with supervisory/management courses or equivalent experience in manufacturing/production environment. Knowledge of manufacturing processes utilizing wood, vinyl, or metal is essential. Self-starter, problem solver, human relations, communication skills, math, planning skills, and familiarity with computerized information systems are necessary.
