Position Overview
This position is an integral part of the Transform Nebraska Initiative and is managed by Wellbeing & Equity Innovations (WEI). The role of the Program Specialist involves coordinating and delivering program services while actively engaging with program participants, community-based service organizations, and justice-involved families and individuals.
The specialist will be responsible for implementing and delivering direct services and group-based implementation of a comprehensive family-based program curriculum directly to families, communities, and service providers within Lancaster, Douglas, and Gage counties. The Program Specialist will work closely with individuals and families as they transition back into their communities, providing direct support and guidance throughout the reentry process.
This position demands travel within the designated communities and project sites, as well as a flexible work schedule to meet program needs. Key responsibilities include collaborating with community service providers, working in partnership with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, and engaging with other essential community stakeholders across Nebraska.
The Program Specialist will carry out these duties under the direct supervision of the WEI Project Director, who oversees the broader initiative within the state. The Program Specialist will support recruitment efforts by visiting facilities, meeting potential participants, and promoting the program initiative.
This position requires a commitment to fostering successful reentry by providing encouragement to families and supporting positive outcomes for justice-involved individuals and their families. WEI highly values diverse life experiences and backgrounds – including prior involvement in the criminal justice system. Experience providing evidence-based programming and practices to vulnerable populations is essential.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Delivers family-based interventions and services to individuals and families in the reentry process.
- Provides individual and group interventions that support families of justice involved individuals by reducing family tension and stress.
- Fully participates and adheres to the programming/services protocol of the project.
- Delivery programming and services in community partner sites, participants’ homes, and public settings, in addition to in-person program and service delivery, and provide mobile and technology-assisted support.
- Contacts, schedules, and coordinates appointments with program participants that are involved in the project.
- Coordinates with stakeholders and other community partners to schedule appointments and visits.
- Observes, identifies, and does other duties as assigned for what is needed to move the project forward in a way that best represents WEI.
- Use motivational engagement techniques to support, encourage, and retain participants in programming, and services.
- Interacts with participant families and other formal and informal community supports that will aid in community stability and individual well-being.
- Actively and regularly participates in team meetings and the identification of team goals.
- Engages other team members in reviewing project participant progress toward goals.
- Integrating feedback from participants and team members into programming and service delivery.
- Fully participates in training and re-training for skill development as required by WEI.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, marriage and family, or other
human services field and work experience of 3 years delivering programming.
- Preferred master’s degree in social work, counseling, marriage and family, or other
human services field and without any years of experience delivering programming.
- Must be eligible to pass and maintain security clearance in correctional settings.
- Ability to adapt to various work hours, including evenings and weekends, when needed.
- Knowledge of mental health, substance abuse, trauma, and other related populations.
- Experience providing evidence-based programming and practices to vulnerable
populations.
- Must have reliable transportation and a current and active driver’s license.
- Must have reliable internet and phone access.
Preferred Qualifications

- Ability to engage effectively with colleagues through verbal and written communication.
- Skilled in writing and maintaining computer-based records in an accurate and timely
manner.
- Ability to respond to crisis situations and psychiatric emergencies utilizing appropriate
crisis intervention techniques.
- High levels of familiarity and/or experience in working with criminal justice-involved
populations.
- Familiarity and/or training in motivational interviewing, solution-focused brief therapy,
cognitive behavioral approaches, and/or strengths-based focus therapy.
- Highly organized, self-starter with good interpersonal, problem-solving, and analytical
skills.
Position Type:
Wellbeing & Equity Innovations is currently seeking two candidates for full-time contract
positions.
Location:
This position is location-specific in Lincoln, NE and Omaha, NE with the primary service being in Lancaster, Douglas, and Gage County, Nebraska, for the duration of the position period.
Compensation:
The expected pay range for this position is $30-$40 an hour, commensurate with experience.
