Job Summary:

Wesbuilt is currently seeking applicants for an Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Director who will report directly to the Director of Field Operations and maintain proactive, frequent, and open communication.


The EHS Director will be primarily responsible for managing the Company’s safety initiatives and safety loss control programs. The successful candidate will also enforce the implementation of a safety and risk management culture dedicated to being “best in class”.


Responsibilities:

  • Clearly articulates the Company’s safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures in order to build a safety culture dedicated to behaviors that lead to best-in-class results.
  • Implements company policies and procedures surrounding employee safety and incident / injury prevention.
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and conclusions, and monitors results to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Ensures safety & health training meet the needs of internal and external (client& regulating entities) requirements, so staff has the safety training to safely perform tasks and jobs.
  • Management of the company’s loss control program including management of all workers compensation and general liability claims.
  • Liaising with Insurance carriers and legal teams to assist with claims management.
  • Act as corporate contact for any federal, state, or municipal safety or risk management authority and/or personnel, including, but not limited to OSHA.
  • Leads Safety Committee.
  • Develops annual plans & budgets for safety & health initiatives, including training
  • Manage and oversee employee recognition program.
  • Prepares monthly safety reports to present to management.
  • Manages hazard assessment activities by:


  1. Conducting site safety inspections and correcting any unsafe conditions or unsafe practices where necessary.
  2. Supporting the Project Management and Superintendent staff regarding all Subcontractor job specific Safety Programs.
  3. Reviewing new Subcontractor pre-qualification documentation to ensure they have an acceptable safety record and communicate with project management of their acceptance or rejection.
  4. Ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and all applicable provisions of Federal, State and Local Laws, ordinances, codes and regulations affecting safety and health, which may include but not limited to: OSHA Act and OSHA Standards, NYC DOB Code, FDNY, DEP and DOT Codes.
  5. Ensuring that all employees, including employees of all subcontractors comply with Wesbuilt Safety Procedures and Project Site Safety Rules and Regulations.
  6. Monitoring the completion of required Safety Paperwork on jobsites, including but not limited to: Daily Logs, Orientations, Equipment Inspections, and Permits etc.
  7. Managing and monitor the use of ODIN – the company’s digital system for onboarding workers to a project and tracking signing in, orientations, safety training etc.
  8. Leading incident reporting, investigation, record keeping and root cause analysis.


Educational and Professional Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should meet the following minimum requirements and qualifications.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, Construction Management or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing & leading a structured safety program; self-performing general contractor or specialty contractor preferable.
  • NYC Safety Training – Minimum OSHA 30 / DOB Training Connect SST  Appropriate OSHA certifications (including 40-hour Hazwoper)
  • In depth technical knowledge of construction related OSHA, federal, state, and local regulatory standards, and ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement effective corrective practices.
  • Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking abilities. Ability to prioritize multiple demands in a fast paced, changing work environment.
  • Detail-oriented professional with strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills who exercises sound judgment in decision making and complex problem-solving.
  • Commitment to excellence and passionate about EH&S, consistently set stretch goals and demonstrate persistence to achieve them


The successful candidate must also have experience managing staff and third party hired firms and be an effective communicator, with the ability of generating professional written material and delivering effective verbal presentations.


Computer Systems:

Microsoft Office (Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Procore Construction Management Software, ODIN Construction Risk Management Software


Working Conditions:

  • Office based but significant work at construction job sites, during all stages, in all types of weather conditions
  • Must be able to perform activities requiring use of arms and legs, including climbing ladders/scaffolding, lifting & handling materials, walking & balancing, stooping
  • Must be able to speak & hear detailed information through oral communication
  • Must be able to see clearly and recognize small details

Salary : $120,000 - $140,000
