POSITION SUMMARY
The Low Voltage Technician works with technology team members to implement and maintain services that are useful and reliable. This individual works primarily through the district helpdesk system to complete work tickets, triage issues, and escalate high priority problems with an emphasis on low voltage maintenance and installation. This position provides proactive and reactive support to all end user district systems. The Low Voltage Field Technician reports to the Network Manager.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The tasks listed below are representative of the essential performance responsibilities. Tasks assigned to individuals will vary based on department needs and it is possible not all duties will be performed in any given year. Qualifications:
- The well-qualified candidate will have experience supporting end users in an enterprise class environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate in English (speak/read/write)
- Ability to set work priorities, multi-task and work independently, and use time management and organization strategies well.
- Presents a professional image and interacts professionally with faculty, staff, students, and community.
- The ability to assess problems and communicate quickly while under pressure is essential.
- Ability to lift IT equipment up to 60 lbs.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve data issues.
- Desire to assist in creating efficient workflows.
- Experience in K-12 education institutions is preferred.
- Knowledge of Windows, MacOS, iOS, and ChromeOS operating systems.
- Knowledge of Local Area Networking and wireless technologies.
- Willingness to work overtime, and sometimes weekends, as required.
- Ability to work from plans, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and work orders.
- Ability to climb step ladders up to 12 feet in height.
- Experience with indoor lifts
- Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license are required (mileage compensation).
Low Voltage Responsibilities:
- Fulfilling assigned helpdesk tickets
- Working directly with building staff on resolving reported issues
- Travel between assigned buildings.
- Lifting of desktop computers, networking equipment, moving multifunctioning printers and wireless access points
- Troubleshooting end-user Mitel phones
- Testing, repair, and labeling of network cabling and patch panels
- Install and repair all low-voltage cabling for district network and security systems, which includes the following:
- Analog and VoIP Phones
- Wireless Access Points
- Printers
- Projectors
- A/V Equipment
- Security Cameras
- Alarm Systems
- Door Strikes
- Manage projects independently with external vendors for large-scale installations.
- Coordinate with building lead engineers before drilling for low-voltage projects.
- Provide estimated time and materials for installations and repairs as needed.
- Maintain accurate records and requisition necessary parts and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with company and OSHA safety regulations.
- Report directly to the Network Manager for low voltage responsibilities.
- Perform other assigned tasks by the Director of Technology Support Services or designee
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk,
sit and see, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and
arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10
pounds regularly/daily. The employee is required to use computers and other office
equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, such as to
read type or hand written material. The noise level in the work environment is generally
quiet but can also be that of a school and can be loud when in places like gyms and
cafeterias. The employee is continuously interacting with students and staff.
