The Department of Arts, Culture and History has an opportunity for a full-time permanent Operations Technician 1. Under the general supervision of the Technical Services Manager, this position will provide support services to the Department of Arts, Culture and History in the areas of technical services and events. Technical Services: Prepare, construct and tear down exhibits; move art objects and artifacts; study blueprints, sketches, and working drawings; prepare layouts, cut lists, and make initial decision for materials purchase; assemble materials into finished structure and install; maintain all tools and equipment in the technical services shop, including keeping an accurate inventory of supplies. Work throughout the department on various projects which may include minor repair work, painting of office spaces, or minor renovations. Events: Assist work crews with events, room bookings, and other programming; assist with large events, such as the Vandalia Gathering; drive large trucks for events; set-up booths; install marley and/or wooden dance floors; set-up and run lights and sound equipment; provide technical assistance to various catering companies contracted to the department. Related duties as assigned.Hours will include nights, weekends, and holidays depending on the programming schedule. Some travel may be required. Required Skills: Knowledge of basic carpentry, painting, and drywall; ability to use a variety of hand and power tools; knowledge of electrical, workplace, and tool safety; knowledge of theater stage lighting. Must be able to drive trucks up to 24 feet and have a valid driver's license; must be comfortable working on personnel lifts and at heights; able to demonstrate sensitivity when handling artifacts from the museum collection. Must be able to perform physical set-up and take-down of tables, chairs, and other equipment for events, room bookings, and exhibits. Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds.
