Position Summary The Metal Shop Lead is responsible for managing the daily operations of the metal shop, including the production of metal panels, trim, and related components. This role ensures quality control, maintains equipment, enforces safety protocols, and leads a team to meet production goals, all while upholding Western’s commitment to excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Team Management
- Supervise, train, and mentor metal shop team members to achieve daily and weekly production targets.
- Conduct team meetings to communicate goals, updates, and company expectations.
- Promote a positive work environment that aligns with Western’s values.
- Production Oversight
- Plan and prioritize production schedules to meet deadlines and ensure efficiency.
- Oversee the operation of roll formers, shears, and other shop equipment.
- Perform quality checks to ensure all products meet company and industry standards.
- Safety and Compliance
- Implement and enforce safety protocols to create a safe working environment.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and address any issues promptly.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
- Equipment Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on metal shop equipment.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team for repairs or servicing as needed.
- Maintain an organized and clean workspace to prevent equipment damage and improve safety.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with the Production Manager and other shop leads to coordinate workflow and resources.
- Communicate production progress, challenges, and requirements to management.
- Ensure team members are updated on production plans and policies.
- Training and Development
- Train team members on proper equipment usage, production techniques, and safety protocols.
- Identify opportunities for skill development and recommend training programs.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in metal fabrication, manufacturing, or a similar production environment.
- Leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Strong knowledge of roll forming and metalworking equipment.
- Commitment to maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot production and equipment issues effectively.
