OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

WCCB Catering and Special Events Manager is responsible for the overall operations of our Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay catering functions. This involves managing the catering functions before, during and after an event, handling the preparation and scheduling to appropriate staffing levels for a successful function.

The Catering and Special Events Manager is responsible to manage employee, resident, guest and vendor relations and has responsibility for event planning for clients; including understanding their needs for the events and offering additional services and products for purchase.

Responsible for the daily operations of their catering function and must train and schedule staff to work events. The Catering and Special Events Manager maintains contact with vendors, including food and other product and services vendors, i.e., linens and equipment suppliers. The Catering and Special Events Manager is responsible for budget and financial management including comparing the prices of different suppliers and making sure they are getting the best service for the money.

The Catering and Special Events Manager is responsible for the appearance/set-up and functionality of the venue before and during the event, and while the primary function of the Catering and Special Events Manager is to coordinate, plan and manage events, they are also expected to assist the service staff on the floor during an event if necessary.

 

PAY:

$48,942.40-$58,728.80 (Salary, Exempt)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manages and directs staff to provide scheduled Catering or Retail services in accordance with WCCB policies, catering and dining standards.

2. Recruits and trains staff in catering functions including, customer service, proper portioning, cash management/POS skills as well as safety and sanitation.

3. Manage the Catering and Special Events Department’s Wine and Spirits program with the Dining Services Manager complying with all ABC Laws.

4. Manages inventory, purchasing and rental supplies of paper, table top, linen, alcohol, uniforms, and other supplies.

5. Interacts frequently with customers to determine satisfaction level and provide Service Recovery if necessary.

6. Available to residents and guests during meal times to address/assist with services. This includes all Dining Service Areas in Independent Living, Enhanced Services and the Hoy Center.

7. Implements and maintains WCCB and Morrison’s programs (i.e. Catering, Balanced, Quarterly Seasonal Menus, and HATS – Hospitality Associate Training Series etc.)

8. Implements and maintains cash handling/POS/billing standards as outlined in the Dining Services and WCCB Policies and Procedures.

9. Interacts daily with Executive Chef and Culinary Team to assist in production planning and waste reduction.

10. Coordinate meetings with customers to plan event and manage functions for the community.

11. Communicates effectively with all team members, residents, family members, guests via various communications mediums, including telephone, written, and electronic communication.

12. Completes all daily, weekly and/or monthly reports as required by the position and department.

Note: Catering Bills for customers must be completed, filed and distributed every week by Friday 10:00 a.m. All Caterings will be entered into eFinance.

13. Responsible for all updates to Cater Ease Software and POS System.

14. Assist or direct all ILU Events like Picnics, Holiday Events, or Farmer’s Market.

15. Maintains a clean, sanitary working environment. Complies with federal, state and local health and sanitation regulations and department sanitation procedures as evidenced through local health department and third-party audits.

16. Ensures staff assists in achieving stated resident satisfaction goals.

17. Follows Westminster Canterbury, department, Morrison, and Compass safety policies and procedures to include occurrence reporting, including, but not limited to, Hazardous Materials, Waste Program, Emergency Preparedness Program, and Life Safety Program.

18. Participates in departmental meetings, staff development, and professional programs, as appropriate.

19. Complies with all policies and procedures of Westminster Canterbury, Morrison and Compass as appropriate.

20. Performs other tasks that may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

• Culinary Arts Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management or 5 years of progressive food service management experience.

• Extensive working knowledge of formal and informal styles of service, food safety/sanitation. Familiarity with Westminster-Canterbury is preferred.

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills to assess operating situations and evaluate alternate courses of action.

• Strong judgment in researching, developing, and recommending policies and procedures for Westminster Canterbury Catering team.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Knowledge of accounting principles and budgets.

• ServSafe certified within one year of date of hire.

• Sound mental and physical health as required to perform job duties.
