Whately Elementary School is a nurturing and inclusive learning community dedicated to fostering academic success, social-emotional development, and well-being for all students. We are seeking a passionate Library/Media Specialist to join our team and support elementary students in reaching their full potential.
Responsibilities:
Library & Media Center Management
Plan and deliver weekly library lessons to students in all grades.
Curate, organize, and maintain a diverse collection of print and digital resources
Foster a welcoming and inclusive library environment that encourages a love for reading and research.
Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum needs through literature, research tools, and technology integration.
Provide twice weekly instruction in library skills, digital citizenship, and media literacy to all students in the school.
Promote literacy programs, such as book clubs, reading challenges, and author visits.
Manage circulation, cataloging, and inventory of library materials.
Assist students and staff in using library resources and technology effectively.
Technology & Media Literacy
Plan and deliver weekly technology/media lessons to students in all grades.
Provide guidance on responsible digital citizenship and safe internet practices.
Support the integration of technology in classrooms by introducing digital tools and resources.
Maintain and update digital resources, such as online catalogs and research databases.
Small Group Support
Provide targeted instruction in small groups for students needing additional support in literacy or math.
Work collaboratively with teachers.
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of progress.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
Valid Massachusetts certification; Library or Digital Literacy and Computer Science PK-6
Experience in elementary education, literacy instruction, or library/media services preferred.
Strong knowledge of children's literature, media resources, and educational technology.
Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
Compensation: As per current Union #38 Teacher Contract
