Incumbent serves as Warehouse Worker for the White County Recycling Department, responsible for preparing and bailing recyclable materials for shipping.
DUTIES:
Assists in daily unloading of facility trailers on rotating basis, including sorting all materials removed and sort into proper designated location. Bails all materials received.
Follows provided pick-up schedule for all local business owners for daily facility pick-ups.
Provides notification of needed supplies and maintenance or repairs to facility balers, forklifts, and trucks to Director or Assistant Director.
Loads semi-truck with product shipping out and maintains bill of lading. Follows rules and regulations of OSHA for proper operation.
Assists in maintaining facility grounds.
Assists customers and visitors to facility as required.
Operates box truck, forklift, bailer, glass breaking machine and other machines, in performance of duties. Assists with trailer transportation as needed.
Performs related duties as assigned.
I. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
High school diploma or HSE.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to meet all employer and department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test.
Possession of or ability to obtain required certifications and/or training, including forklift training, blood borne pathogens, and slips and falls.
Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of Department safety policies and procedures and applicable OSHA safety policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of Department equipment and machinery and ability to safely operate Operates box truck, forklift, bailer, glass breaking machine and other machinery.
Ability to physically perform assigned duties, including working in varying weather conditions, working near fumes, odor, dust and dirt, walking on uneven terrain, standing/walking for long periods, lifting/carrying objects weighing 25-50 pounds, pushing/pulling objects, bending, crouching/kneeling, reaching, and handling/grasping/fingering objects.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements.
Shall comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.
Ability to work on several tasks at the same time and work rapidly for long periods, often under time pressure.
Ability to apply knowledge of people and/or locations.
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations.
Possession of a valid Indiana driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.
II. RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent works according to work priorities primarily determined by supervisor. Assignments and objectives are set jointly by incumbent and supervisor with some degree of flexibility in the job. Decisions are always determined by specific instructions or existing, well-established policies and procedures. Errors in work are primarily detected or prevented through prior instruction from supervisor.
Incumbent reports directly to Recycling Director.
III. PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Incumbent's duties involve standing/walking for long periods, lifting/carrying objects weighing 25-50 pounds, pushing/pulling objects, bending, crouching/kneeling, reaching, and handling/grasping/fingering objects, close/far vision, color/depth perception, speaking clearly, and hearing sounds/communication. Strain is not prolonged and effort is exerted for short to moderate periods of time, usually in connection to such duties for physical work.
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbent performs duties in a Pole barn and/or outdoors and is frequently exposed to normal hazards associated with recycling, such as heavy machinery, excessive noise, grease, dirt, dust, fumes, and extreme temperatures. Incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing and/or equipment. Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others.
