What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at Whitefield Academy?
Primary Objective:
The accountant is responsible for overseeing the daily accounting and bookkeeping functions of the school, ensuring the operations are in line with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate all financial audit activity
- Oversee all financial and project accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with donor restrictions and program budgets
- Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Support Director of Finance in financial operating models and budgets
- Enrollment records set-up and management
- Manage organizational cash and cash flow forecasting
- Oversee student account billing and collections
- Prepare variance analysis
- Reconcile bank accounts
- Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and budgets versus actual expenditures
- Maintain fixed asset records
- Assist Director of Finance with financial aid administration
- Coordinate scholarships for Georgia Goal program
- Manage development accounting
- Manage corporate credit card issuance, cancelation, increases & reconciliation
- Create online payment templates to support various departments and post related revenue and fees
- Attend finance committee meetings and take minutes
- Review and sign weekly accounts payable checks
- Review payroll, create tuition deduction and lunch taxation schedules, post payroll reports
- Serve as back-up for AR & AP Specialist
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals
- Adhere to the bylaws, policies and procedures, and to all laws that govern the school and its actions
- Other responsibilities as assigned by administration
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with an accounting emphasis
- Five years’ experience with general ledger management
- Five years’ experience with financial reporting
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Demonstrate computer literacy and proficiency – intermediate Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Veracross student information system preferred

Work for this position will primarily take place in an office.
