You’ll handle complex compensation requests, balancing best practices with the unique needs of various departments and colleges. Your work will involve deep data analysis—pulling from both internal and external information, identifying trends, and helping leadership make informed decisions. You’ll also assess programs, policies, and procedures to ensure the university’s resources are being used effectively and that compensation strategies align with broader strategic initiatives.
You'll be a trusted partner and internal consultant, collaborating closely with organizational leaders and HR Business Partners to create and revise job descriptions that reflect evolving needs. You’ll review and analyze compensation change requests across all levels of hiring, assessing complexity and applying sound judgment to align decisions with best practices. These strong, effective relationships with key stakeholders will delineate you as a go-to resource for guidance on compensation strategies. This means being able to translate HR and compensation principles into practical recommendations to meet the business needs of the departments. Job Summary
Advises and assists leadership and staff with human resources programs, policies and procedures related to human resources functional area.
Essential Functions
Provides proactive support in the development and communication of human resources programs, policies and procedures; reviews, analyzes, recommends and develops new programs, policies and procedures. Consults with and advises Human Resources Business Partners and leadership on human resources programs, policies and procedures. Provides prompt resolution of requests and questions specific to functional area, which may have been escalated due to the specialized nature. Serves as a subject matter expert in functional area; educates staff to ensure consistent and equitable application of policies and procedures. Identifies issues that may hinder the University's progress on strategic initiatives and recommends appropriate interventions, as needed.
Job Duties
- Gather and research information for compensation analysis using available resources
- Work with organizational leaders and HR Business Partners to create/revise job descriptions
- Follow documented processes and best practices to analyze appropriate pay change requests
- Establish effective business relationships with stakeholders
- Ability to communicate efficiently and assess complexity of various requests
- Review complex compensation requests from all levels of hiring
- Translate compensation best practices, to meet business needs of depts/colleges
- Maintaining data related to compensation initiatives, research and progression
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business or related field. Every year of experience beyond three (3) years can be substituted for 30 hours of college coursework.
- Three (3) years of experience in human resources or related field

None
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Intermediate to Advance skill in Microsoft Excel
- Established work history in compensation consulting
- Extensive experience with complex compensation data analysis
- Knowledge of compensation plans and structures and the application to employee pay
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide vetted compensation recommendations
- Exceptional attention to detail and proven experience auditing data
Preferred License/Certifications/Training:
SHRM-CP
