JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARYResponsible for assisting in community recreation activities and/or athletics programs. Employees in this classification perform at entry staff level and are responsible for providing a safe recreational environment for the assigned community programs, youth activities, and/or special events provided by the Town. Incumbents work with independence and initiative within established policies and procedures.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIESThe following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.Assists in day-to-day operations (including set-up and organization) of various community programs, events, and activities.Sets up and takes down equipment for activities and events; supervises and coaches participants as directed.Monitors program participants.Enforces rules and regulations and monitors security of facilities.Interacts with the public in responding to questions and assisting in preparation for programs and events.Performs other related duties as assigned or required.KNOWLEDGECurrent principles and practices of child safety and instruction work;First Aid and CPR methods, procedures, and practices.SKILLSUsing computers and related software applications;Coordinating and delivering instructional training in a recreational setting;Performing First Aid and CPR;Reinforcing positive behavior and discipline for inappropriate behavior, based upon established program guidelines;Understanding and following written and oral instructions;Dealing diplomatically with individuals, as well as reacting quickly and calmly in emergency situations;Observing, and objectively and clearly reporting, routine and non-routine emergency and non-emergency activities;Completing various forms and reports;Operating various program equipment and machinery;Modeling good sportsmanship in sports activities through enthusiastic, non-competitive participation, and support;Communication both verbal and written, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
