SALARY
Contractual position $28.75/hour

QUALIFICATIONS
A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Effective communication skills including ability to interpret both signed and voice communication in ASL and Signed English.
Thorough understanding of deaf culture.
Verification of applicable course work.
Ability to work cooperatively with students, classroom teachers and special educators.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree from Interpreter Preparation program or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university, or 5 years of experience in sign language interpreting.
NIC (National Interpreter Certification) EIPA 2.5 or above (Educational Interpreter Performance assessment) Certifications, or State QAS level III.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide communication access to students who are deaf or hard of hearing by faithfully and accurately representing the afterschool activity instruction, teacher/student dialogue, and relevant sound information in the mod of communication used by the student.
Ensure that the instructor’s message is being conveyed clearly and accurately while also ensuring the student has the opportunity to participate in the afterschool activity including discussions and social interactions.
Work cooperatively with students and school staff.
Maintain confidentiality and follow RID’s Professional Code of Conduct.
