What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Willis Klein Commercial Sales?
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Assistant Controller to join our team. The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in managing financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and safeguarding financial accuracy within Willis Klein Commercial Sales. This position reports directly to the Controller and collaborates closely with project managers, estimators, and other team members.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Review and refine internal controls to minimize risk and ensure compliance with GAAP and construction-specific standards.
General Ledger Management:
- Overseeing the general ledger, ensuring accurate posting of transactions and reconciling amounts.
Compliance & Audit:
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and relevant regulations.
- Coordinating with external auditors during the audit process, preparing necessary documentation and responding to audit inquiries.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records to support audit readiness.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement best practices.
- Identify opportunities to enhance systems and reporting related to change orders, job cost tracking, and labor allocations.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Management:
- Supervise AP/AR functions with an emphasis on lien waivers, vendor payments, and subcontractor billing.
- Ensure timely collections, mitigate credit risks, and implement cost-saving strategies where possible.
- Provide training and mentorship to accounting staff to strengthen team capabilities.
Strategic Support:
- Work with senior leadership to prepare financial forecasts, strategic plans, and risk assessments.
- Provide ad hoc analysis and reporting as needed to support key business decisions.
