Position Summary:
The Kitchen Expeditor plays a critical role in ensuring efficient kitchen-to-table communication and maintaining food quality and accuracy. This position acts as the liaison between the kitchen and front-of-house staff, overseeing order accuracy, coordinating food runners, and ensuring that all runner side work and closing tasks are completed daily.
Key Responsibilities:
- Order Accuracy & Quality Control
- Review all food tickets and ensure that every order leaving the kitchen is complete, correct, and meets presentation standards.
- Communicate clearly with line cooks about any order changes, modifications, or timing issues.
- Monitor food quality, temperature, and plating before it reaches the customer.
- Food Runner Management
- Assign tasks and coordinate the flow of orders with the food runners during service.
- Ensure runners understand menu items and table delivery procedures.
- Provide real-time feedback and direction to ensure timely and accurate delivery of food.
- Side Work & Closing Duties
- Ensure food runners complete all assigned daily side work, including stocking, organizing, and cleaning.
- Maintain and manage runner closing checklists and verify completion at the end of each shift.
- Report incomplete tasks or performance issues to the management team.
- Communication & Coordination
- Act as the central point of contact between kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with servers, bartenders, and management throughout service.
- Help prioritize and manage kitchen ticket flow during high-volume periods.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a fast-paced kitchen or restaurant setting required.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lead and manage support staff effectively.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods (6–8 hours).
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
