The Wilmette Park District offers Summer Short-term staff the following benefits: Individual Seasonal Beach and Pool Pass, One (1) parking decal for Gillson Beach (over 16 years of age only), Individual Center Fitness Club Membership for June – August for the year of employment.
Lakefront Lifeguard Job Summary
The Lakefront Lifeguard is responsible for public safety and policy guidance for Gillson and Langdon Park's swimming beach and adjacent waters.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Enforce all area rules and regulations with consistency
- Perform surveillance duties for patrons, camps, and outside groups
- Monitor and complete reports on water conditions, safety, and equipment checks, and incident reports
- Communicate with other Park District staff, supervisors, and team leaders as needed
- Perform first aid when needed and in line with American Red Cross training
- Attend pre-shift and bi-weekly in-services and skills tests
- Comply with established Park District and site procedures
- Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs
- Actively contribute to the Park Districts’ sustainability goals
Safety Responsibilities:
- Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents
- Obey all Park District and departmental safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that are pertinent to the activities conducted at the facility and property
- Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices, or conditions to the immediate supervisor
- Attend and participate in required safety training
- Review all accident and incident reports that occur under the area of responsibility and send them to the Human Resources/Risk Management division
- Responsible for administering minor first aid if needed
Required Skills/Abilities (Technology, Mathematical, Language):
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to project across a large area with clear and concise language
- Ability to maintain self-control and composure in high-stress and/or difficult situations

Education and/or Experience:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds
- Holiday and weekend work is required
- Frequently required to sit, stand and climb
- Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Required Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification with Waterfront
