What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher - STAGES Program position at Wilmington Public Schools?
The STAGES (Students Accessing Guidance for Emotional Support) Program is for students with identified emotional disabilities who, as a result of their disability, do not have the coping mechanisms or emotional and behavioral regulation strategies to appropriately interact with other students and meet the academic demands of the general education classroom. Program services can range from pull out services providing direct instruction in the core curriculum to a supported full-inclusion program. The STAGES program staff are involved with all teachers and paraprofessionals working with the students across settings to monitor progress and academic performance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Writing and implementing Individualized Educational Programs, data collection, conduct assessments/evaluations, facilitate TEAM meetings and have strong behavior management skills
• Assist students with the development of social and emotional skills
• Work with the classroom teachers and all other educational assistants/staff/related service providers to implement accommodations and instructional modifications, as needed
• Collaborate on learning materials and provide accommodations for accessing the general education curriculum
• Assist teachers with implementation of strategies
• Work in collaboration with school psychologist, district BCBA, classroom teacher, administration and all other related service providers to implement IEPs, facilitate the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (as needed), oversee data collection, as well as Positive Behavior Supports
• Attend and facilitate IEP meetings as needed to discuss student progress and present data on academic social/emotional goals
• Participate in district-wide Professional Development as assigned
• Managing students' schedules, educational assistant's schedules and providing daily check-ins and skills training through a Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) approach.
• Work cooperatively with staff to support North Core Values
• Other duties as assigned by the building principal
