About the Controller Opportunity
We are seeking a Controller to stabilize and optimize our financial operations who is also able to provide actionable financial insights and engage closely with our Executive Team and Project Managers to ensure accurate financial reporting and forecasting.
The Controller will perform various month-end and year-end close tasks, analysis of general ledger expense transactions and conduct general accounting functions.
The ideal candidate is a motivated self starter who has excellent communication and multitasking skills, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic.
Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Implement and execute SOPs for financial tracking, ensuring consistency and efficiency.
- Provide actionable financial insights regarding project status, job costs, invoices, and overall business health.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, including P&L reports and balance sheets.
- As Controller, you will also be responsible for providing internal management and project teams with timely and accurate financial reports and cost research/analysis.
- Assist with forecasting and budgeting processes, analyzing financial statements and reports, preparing projections, and performing research and analysis as may be required by leadership and executive management.
- Manage Company's month end close, including detailed analysis and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts, while ensuring compliance with US GAAP for Construction Industry accounting requirements based on percentage of completion revenue recognition method and internal policies.
- Prepare monthly payment schedules and cash flow projection and cash requirements.
- Assist with payroll processing, expense reimbursement, and bank reconciliations.
- Implement best practices in construction accounting to enhance efficiency and support long-term financial planning and forecasting.
Process Improvement & Technology Implementation
- Within the first 6 months, learn and steady current financial operations.
- Beyond 6 months, identify opportunities for system and technology upgrades
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely and collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and vendors to resolve billing and financial discrepancies and ensure accurate cost tracking and job performance analysis.
- Work with all departments with professionalism; will work with colleagues at all levels from project accountants to operational management, fractional CFO and executives acting as a key liaison between finance, operations, and executive leadership.
- Provide mentorship and leadership to the accounting team, fostering professional growth.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field.
- 3-5 years business experience in a Construction environment with previous experience managing, leading and training accounting staff.
- Advanced working knowledge of GAAP for the construction industry, including ASC 606 (new revenue recognition standard) and SOX internal control compliance.
- Experience with Percentage of Completion accounting and related procedures (in accordance with ASC 606).
- Month-end close process, balance sheet reconciliations and expenses trend experience.
- Skilled at completing and recording complex financial transactions. Able to aid in developing information for financial statements and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Proficient in using accounting software such as QuickBooks Contractor (or similar construction accounting software) and Procore (or similar ERP systems) to conduct research and analysis.
- Highly skilled in Intermediate to Advanced Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- High level of organization and ability to manage deadlines and demonstrated ability to consistently manage competing priorities.
- Strong commitment to providing excellence in client service and a demonstrated ability to produce high quality results.
- Ability to present financial information to a non-financial audience.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA preferred.
- Exposure to international financial accounting and multi-currency reporting

- This is an in-office position based in South Orange County.
- Base Salary: $150K $185K (Depending on experience)
