Job Summary
As a Production Control Specialist at Patten Company part of The Wing Group, you will play a critical role in overseeing and coordinating the production process to ensure efficiency and adherence to quality standards. You will work closely with various departments to manage inventory levels, production schedules, production variances and workflow optimization.
This position will support production by monitoring and ensuring materials are accurate and available for production. Supporting the production scheduler in the creation and maintenance of detailed production schedules, monitoring production progress against schedule, reviewing and closing out production work orders, and reporting on key production performance measures including material usage, schedule attainment, and efficiency. This position will also interface with government and customer portals to provide required production information when required.
Structure:
The Production Control Specialist reports into the Senior Manager, Production.
Responsibility:
- Support the Production Scheduler in the creation and maintenance of schedules which reflect the existing production capacity taking into account materials availability, production lines, team size, team efficiency, machine capacity, work schedules and plans to adjust capacity. This includes the planning of finished assemblies as well as sub assemblies required for finished assemblies.
- Monitor production progress against the schedule and report back to the Production Management team.
- To ensure the dates, quantities, and status of work orders and planning data within ERP stays current and accurate at all times to ensure Purchasing and Customer facing teams have accurate information.
- To review material gaps on planned work orders and work with the purchasing team to resolve these gaps.
- Review and close work orders when complete to ensure no operations or material variance from actual exist. Where variances exist, investigate and report on the cause, and recommend solutions to avoid in the future.
- Track, analyze and report on manufacturing delivery, efficiency metrics and work order variances
- Track, analyze and report on material usage vs. bill of material requirements, and work with engineering to update material utilization where required.
- Track, analyze and report on variances to production schedules and work with Production Management to make performance gains and to close gaps.
- Review production control issues to plan corrective and preventative actions associated with the planning process or systems.
- Other responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- A Bachelor or Diploma or Certificate with a technical discipline.
- 1 to 2 years previous production control or scheduling experience
- Good shop floor planning & scheduling abilities.
- Good working knowledge manufacturing processes and management
- Good communication skills, verbal and written.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Very strong computer skills, particularly with MS Excel and other reporting tools
- Oracle Netsuite or similar ERP experience an asset.
- Ability to speak Spanish is an asset.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Educational Background: Possession of a Bachelor's, Diploma, or Certificate in a relevant technical discipline, such as Engineering, Operations, or Work Safety, ensures a foundational understanding of manufacturing principles.
Skills Requirements:
- Manufacturing Proficiency: Previous experience in a manufacturing environment. A clear understanding Of manufacturing processes and management.
- Computer, Data Management, and Reporting Proficiency: Strong capability in data management and analysis, and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is a requirement for this position.
- Scheduling Proficiency: Previous experience in scheduling tasks within a manufacturing context showcases the capability to organize and coordinate production activities efficiently.
- Communication and Leadership: Strong verbal and written communication skills, coupled with foster clear communication and collaboration among team members.
- Problem-Solving Aptitude: Adept problem-solving skills enable the resolution of issues that may arise during production, contributing to uninterrupted workflow and efficiency.
Ability Requirements:
- ERP Experience: Familiarity with ERP systems like Oracle Netsuite enhances efficiency in managing production processes and resources.
