Job Summary:
The Terrain Park Crew’s primary responsibility is the operation and daily maintenance of the WMR Terrain Parks. This includes altering and shaping snow, inspecting and maintaining all features, including jumps, rails, boxes, fencing, and signage. This also includes learning how to safely inspect features, both physically and visually, to provide as safe and fun a terrain park as possible. This requires record keeping of feature maintenance and use. Terrain Park Crew also encourages and maintains outstanding guest relations with all park users. The Terrain Park is part of Mountain Operations. Most of the work is conducted outdoors in the on-mountain arena. Some work will be conducted in the Events Department Office located in the Mountain Operations Building.
Job Relationships:
- Reports to: Terrain Park Supervisor
- Supervises: None
- Interrelationships: Works closely with grooming, events crew and supervisor, freestyle and snowboard teams, patrol, and mountain guests.
Work Environment:
- Engage in repetitive body motion involving upper body torque during the transportation of equipment for course/event preparation. Must be able to sustain heavy physical exertion, up to 6 to 10 hours daily. Ability to lift smaller weights from 25lbs repetitively and up to 50lbs occasionally, often in awkward positions. Required to twist, stoop/bend, squat, kneel, grasp with both hands, and ski/snowboard continuously throughout shift.
- Ski/snowboard with up to 50 pounds of weight in arms or on back. Ability to work under varying weather conditions, often extreme in nature.
- Jobs may require working weekends, holidays, and overtime during peak demand times.
- Non-smoking environment.

- Office/Locker area is in the Events Building and requires walking from an employee parking lot each day through various conditions.
Experience Preferred:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- Knowledge of Whitefish Mountain and the Flathead Valley.
- Previous ski industry experience.
- Experience with terrain park use, design, building, and maintenance.
- Ability to ski or snowboard at a high level in terrain park environment.
- Guest service experience in a resort setting.
- CPR Certification preferred.
- Experience with snowmobile operations.

- Per WSI Vehicle Insurance standards: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to be added to WSI’s vehicle insurance policy.
- Responsible for providing all outdoor gear (including Black Ski pants, boots, and skis). A ski jacket is provided.
- Must be confident functioning on snow & ice, including driving, operating snowmobiles, walking, etc.
Specific Duties:
- Daily maintenance including raking, shoveling, and setting up/breaking down banners, flags, signage, fencing, etc.
- Inspect features daily and test features as directed by park management.
- Report guest injuries to ski patrol and assist at accident scenes.
- Educate park users and promote terrain park etiquette.
- Must be able to ski while carrying heavy loads in all conditions. Advanced skier or snowboarder preferred. Must be confident functioning on snow & ice, including driving, operating snowmobiles, walking, etc.
- Close any feature or hit deemed unsafe due to damage, snow, or weather conditions.
- Keep accurate daily logs of terrain park maintenance, opening reports, and conditions.
- Some early mornings may be required for building park features.
- Set a good example for all ages and ability levels. Be courteous to guests at all times.
- Meet company’s requirements for appearance, attendance, language, and punctuality.
- Maintain a safe and cautious work environment while always working within one’s abilities and skill level.
- Work with Events Crew to help satisfy park needs and the needs of park events. Develop and maintain relationships with all other departments on the mountain, especially grooming, patrol, and lifts.
- Must have, or develop, extensive knowledge of WMR facilities and activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety & Wellness:
All team members must be on constant alert for any unsafe conditions and work behaviors. This will involve, but not be limited to, periodic inspections of work and public areas. Follow-up notification will be done to correct the condition or practice at the earliest possible opportunity.
