Worcester Academy, which serves grades 6 thru PG and is a
day-boarding school with multiple campuses, seeks a Director of Campus
Safety who will lead the school in all areas of safety and security.
We are looking for a strategic leader who will develop a collaborative
relationship with the community. The Director will be primarily
responsible for managing our day-to-day security operations, crisis
preparedness, response, and management. The Director will work with a
wide range of campus stakeholders including the Leadership team, the
Office of Student Life, Athletics, and our Residential Life team among others.
Roles and Responsibilities:
General
Serve as strategic leader for on-campus safety and security. Audit
current safety plans, practices, and systems to ensure they are
effectively functioning. Make and implement recommendations for
improvements. Evaluate and update plan annually.
Create a safety plan that links all campuses together and includes
a new athletic center currently under construction.
Maintain an active presence and positive interactions with
students, parents, faculty staff and visitors to be known by the
Worcester Academy community.
Manage the (24/7) campus operations of contracted security staff.
Coordinate with management of contracted security service to
ensure timely and efficient campus safety operations; these include,
but are not limited to, staff training and deployment, regular
campus patrols, special events planning and management, incident
response, reporting, and follow-up.
Plan and conduct drills and training programs for all faculty,
staff and students. Lead debriefing sessions to identify areas for improvement.
Oversee the campus parking management plan and parking lot shuttle operations.
Partner with the Director of Facilities to ensure coordination of
safety and facilities management functions and to identify potential
hazards and safety concerns as well as develop plans to mitigate risk.
Serve as primary liaison to all law enforcement, emergency and
city services including Worcester Police, Worcester Fire, EMS and
city engineers.
Collaborate with School Nurses regarding response to medical
emergencies, oversight of AEDs and CPR and other trainings.
Manage driver training for our fleet of mini-buses.
Additional Responsibilities
Periodically meet with school senior administration to report on
safety operations and for school-wide coordination.
(24/7) on-call status to assist, as necessary, in management of
on-campus incidents and/or incidents in the vicinity of campus.
Serve as incident supervisor in the event of a campus emergency or crisis.
Reimagine the Emergency Response Team (ERT); participate in
planning and training sessions, and in ERT emergency management operations.
In partnership with IT, oversee Alertus, the emergency response software.
Present plans on school safety readiness to the Leadership team,
faculty and staff, or parents as needed.
Actively participate in Professional Development opportunities.
Experience and Skills:
QUALIFICATIONS
1.
Education
Minimum associated degree in related field; bachelors degree preferred
2.
Experience
A minimum of (5) years relevant experience in progressively
responsible positions within a law enforcement organization and or
school campus safety department; at least (3) years of which must
have been in a supervisory role.
3.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communications skills
with the ability to diplomatically and effectively communicate with
others during sensitive and stressful situations.
Strong written communication skills.
Proficiency in technology and/or ability to learn the Google Suite
of applications.
Ability to be organized, work independently and exercise sound judgment.
Ability to multitask in stressful situations.
Available to respond to emergency and crisis situations outside of
working hours.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED - Contracted security staff
SUPERVISION RECEIVED - Chief Financial Officer
Working Environment:
Work full-time and maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Ability to move throughout the campus during all weather conditions.
Ability to effectively communicate in person and digitally with
faculty, staff, parents, students and external contacts.
