Payroll Specialist I

SCA – Accounting Clerk II
Summary/Objective
The Payroll Specialist I collects, calculates, inputs, processes, validates, and reports payroll data to ensure timely and compliant payroll processing. Basic understanding and proper application of relevant payroll laws and regulations, in addition to collective bargaining and Service Contract Act requirements is important. This position is responsible for preparing and distributing a variety of reports and providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Essential Functions

1. Act as a primary point of contact for payroll, providing payroll support and assistance to employees and others, escalating as needed
2. Assist employees and others with retirement and benefit administration as it relates to payroll
3. Enter and validate payroll data relating to timekeeping, leaves, wages, and deductions
4. Maintain leave accruals and process absence requests and distributions based on leave availability, guided by company policy, relevant regulations, and collective bargaining agreements
5. Maintain up to date employee information in various databases, ensuring confidentiality and safe handling of sensitive data
6. Provide a variety of recurring and ad hoc reports to internal and external users, leveraging and validating automations when possible
7. Maintain digital and physical records in accordance with corporate policies and procedures
8. Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing and distribution
9. Serves as back-up for other payroll and finance personnel
10. Other duties as assigned

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, scanners, postage meters, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
The is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend, or stand as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, forty hours per work, Monday through Friday.
Travel
Travel is primarily locally during the business day.
Required Education and Experience
1. High school graduate or GED
2. Computer skills, specifically excel and data entry
Preferred Education and Experience
1. Associates degree in business administration, accounting, or a related field
2. Experience working in an office environment
3. Experience in payroll or related field
Licenses/Work Authorization/Security Clearance
1. Valid Driver’s License with certificate of insurability (corporate auto policy).
2. Drug Screen.
3. WSC background check.
4. NACI Military background check.
