The anticipated hiring range for this position is $60,500 to $65,000. Hiring offers will be determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Director - Student Engagement is an essential position within the division of Student Affairs and is responsible for ensuring student satisfaction, engagement, and retention. They are responsible for managing, administering, and organizing a wide array of student activities and events for the student community.  The Assistant Director ultimately supports the college strategy to promote the intellectual, cultural, personal, and social development of all students through high quality student life programs. The mission is to create a transformative student experience positively impacting student retention and on-campus residency.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, develops, implements, supervises, and attends a multiple number of campus wide events sponsored by the Department of Campus Life. Responsible for full staffing and scheduling of all student activity events.
  • Develops and implements all campus-wide programming including annual cooking and baking competitions.
  • Manages all budget and financial matters of events and programs, including entertainment vendor contracts and Gift in Kind.
  • Acts as an advisor and manages budget for the Student Programming Board (S.P.I.C.E.).
  • Works in collaboration with other campus offices to plan large scale programming, such as, cooking/baking competitions, signature themed weekends, The Egg entertainment series.
  • Coordinates with the Advancement Office to cultivate and retain corporate sponsorship opportunities for major campus wide programs.
  • Works closely with the Director - Student Engagement to organize, plan and supervise off-campus student activities and bus trips.
  • Works in collaboration with the Dining Services management staff for late night/weekend programming within The Egg dining facility.
  • Assists with the development and evaluation of on-campus recruitment initiatives of students to be involved in co-curricular opportunities.
  • Supervises Earn & Learn and Work Study programming assistants.
  • Responsible for assessment tools and data collection for student learning outcomes of programs within the student activities area. Advises the student programming board to foster learning opportunities and assessment of learning outcomes for students.
  • Represents the department at various college-wide meetings, functions and/or committees at the request of the Director - Student Engagement.
  • Works closely with the Student Recreation Center (SRC) Staff to ensure that events scheduled within the SRC are managed effectively.
  • Ensures projects are complete within the time and budget set by the Director - Student Engagement.
  • Provides leadership and supervision for the New Student Orientation program including recruitment, selection, and training of Orientation Leaders and oversight of the Orientation Moodle (on-line) program.
  • Assists with tasks on graduation day to ensure a seamless experience for graduates and their guests.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs/Student Personnel or closely related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of related work experience as a full-time professional in a student services office/division.

Licenses / Certifications:

  • Have or able to quickly obtain a NY state driver’s license and ability and willingness to drive a 14-passenger van.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Large scale event management experience.
  • Strong social media knowledge, experience, and application.
  • Computer graphic experience including knowledge of Adobe Illustrator.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and project management skills with the ability to excel when working and communicating with college age students.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able work independently with accountability at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have strong time management and organizational skills enabling them to work with multiple objectives and priorities.
  • Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with social media, and MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of student development.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills required.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive issues with confidentiality and discretion.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be available to work nights and weekends as required due to business needs.
  • Regular work requires a great deal of sitting and standing for extended periods.
  • Regular work requires the use of a computer, sometimes in excess of eight (8) hours per day.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Salary : $60,500 - $65,000
