Domestic Operations Specialist

World Trade Logistics – an asset based full-service transportation and logistics provider – in Baltimore, MD - is seeking to add a Domestic Operations Specialist to our growing team. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in freight forwarding operations, with both air and ground experience.

Job Description

The Domestic Operations Specialist primary responsibility is to assist the domestic department to meet or exceed the expectations of our clients, each and every time we are of service to them, by responding quickly and proactively to challenges and facilitating a quick and positive solution to their domestic freight needs. Thinking outside the box and creative solutions are most desirable .

Position Overview and Responsibilities

For the Domestic Operations Specialist, responsibilities include:

• Prioritizing, scheduling, and routing shipments for ground and air movement.
• Quoting and invoicing
• Maintaining accurate status updates for all shipments.
• Ensuring a proactive and communitive relationship with all customers
• Responding to inquiries from customers, carriers and agents in a timely fashion.
• Interacting with customers and their key personnel as needed to support the sales effort.
• Maintaining and growing relationships on WTL/BTX behalf with both existing and new customers and carriers.
• Handling and quickly resolve any issues with customers, BTX branches, and agents.
• Communicating daily with customers to keep them informed of changes pertaining to their shipments, should an update apply or be required.
• Lead and mentor others in the domestic department.
• Ensure that the domestic department maintains all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that are agreed upon by the customer, the operations team and the sales team.
• Demonstrate in-depth industry knowledge with the ability to identify, anticipate, understand and respond to client needs promptly.
• Negotiate aggressive rates with all service providers.

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the operations manager

Qualifications and Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in domestic ground and air freight forwarding operations.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Excellent customer service skills with a strong sense of urgency.
• Creative problem-solving skills.
• In-depth knowledge of domestic ground and air freight movement including pricing, documentation and shipment management.

Physical Requirements

• Sitting at a computer for prolonged periods of time
• Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
