Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Designer is responsible for collaborating with the Design Director and Senior Designer in the creation of a project’s comprehensive interiors scheme. Involving the coordination of interior architecture, space programming, space planning, FFE, and color/materials. The Designer is the key team lead and accountable for the plan, design, selection, and specification of all furnishings, fixtures, and finishes. The Designer is charged with the creative, technical, budgetary, operational, and design document coordination for all facets of the interior FFE package. The Designer is responsible to lead and guide the team assigned to each project and is accountable for the performance and deliverables of each individual.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Collaborate with the Design Director and Design Team in the initial conceptual development of a projects theme, character, design vocabulary, character, and mood.
• Review, assess and provide recommendations based on the client space program and planning efforts
• Provides input and confirmation to the project team regarding fundamental issues of interior planning and design at onset of project and at all milestone reviews and work sessions.
• Proactively bring forward creative resources, and ideas to ensure best possible creative solutions and innovations and shall continuously research, review, and incorporate creative ideas as appropriate.
• Hold a high degree of historical precedent and cultural awareness with a strong comprehension of materials, furnishings, fixtures, and finishes to lead both progressive design projects as well as culturally mindful designs.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplined team of designers, architects and engineers to interpret the needs of all project stakeholders.
• Prepare and manage conceptual and milestone design presentations of all FFE, color selections, and finish/material specifications for both internal and external review and approval.
• Establish and oversee all project specification budgets, tracking reports, design and specification schedules, and resource databanks for use throughout a project’s duration.
• Oversee the organization of project files and binders and contribute to the creation of meeting minutes.
• Working with the Design Director and Client/Owner’s representative, confirm and coordinate all client requirements relative to FFE and finishes, and is accountable for communicating all design guidelines to the project team to ensure timely and accurate incorporation of client requirements.
• Prepare and manage FFE Specifications from conceptual design through construction administration for all project assignments.
• Throughout the specification process and prior to issuance among peer consultants as well as Client/Owner, evaluate and approve all specification documents, schedules and design drawings for accuracy of dimensions, sizes, finishes, fabrics, quantities, specification callouts and locations, and cross references to client budget and technical collaboration with the interior design documents and schedules.
• Design of all furniture and fixture plans, including fully illustrative and correctly scaled furniture drawings on architectural backgrounds for incorporation into the interior design document set.
• Label, review and confirm all furniture, fixture, artwork and accessory callouts into the interior design documents with cross references to the FFE specification and/or furniture schedules.
• Label, review and confirm all finish, material, plumbing fixture, toilet accessory and aesthetic hardware callouts and assignment locations in the interior design documents. Coordinate with Technical Designers in the creation of finish specifications and/or schedules
• Partner with the Design Director with the preparation of internal design and documentation schedules and deliverable guidelines to ensure that all contractual objectives are fulfilled on-time and on-budget.
• Monitor the Level-of-Effort via tracking of labor hours for self on a weekly basis and communicate this information to the Design Director on a weekly basis.
• Manage priorities and deliverables based on the internal design and documentation schedules and deliverable guidelines prepared by you and the Design Director.
• Proactively design all FFE “next-step” deliverables throughout the design and coordination process and keep the Design Director apprised of such, through ongoing status and update dialogue.
• Appropriately lead, review and delegate work among the project team.
• Oversee the design and documentation Quality Assurance reviews with the Design Team prior to issuance of all milestone deliverable packages to peer consultants and Owner.
• Assist the Design Director with leading internal and external design and coordination work-sessions; record all information to be disseminated among design team.

Job Requirements

• Bachelors/Professional Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Construction, or Project Management required.
• Minimum of 6-8 years of design and project management experience with leading design organizations, including a minimum of 6-8 years of experience in major hospitality and/or entertainment-related design projects.
• Must have completed at least one major and significant resort hospitality project through construction administration with field and project close-out experience.
• Strong previous client relationships based upon successful project experience and trust.

Preferred:

• International project and/or client experience within the past 5 years.
• Four and/or Five Star resort hospitality and residential experience.
• Computer Graphic skills, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, Premiere Pro etc.
• NCARB Architectural registration and/or NCIDQ Interior Design accreditation.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have:
• Comprehensive experience and understanding of the total project process from concept to completion and have seasoned experience in working with peer consultants of world-class reputation.
• Basic familiarity with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Architecture 2018. (experience with the 2020 versions preferred)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Exchange, and Windows.
• Ability to work in a creative, collaborative, entrepreneurial, and fast paced team environment.
• Ability to approach all tasks with proactive thinking and a comprehensive plan of action.
• Must be self-motivated, self-directed, and possess strong leadership qualities.
• Must have an excellent personal presentation and possess the necessary skills and attributes to represent the qualitative character of WDD in all forms of communication and representation.
• Must be an articulate communicator, be capable of directing and coordinating the work of others and must be confident in ability to communicate and collaborate with clients and project peers both internally and externally.
• Must be design sensitive, have finely tuned aesthetic sensibilities, and have broad design vocabulary in order to support high-profile clients, high-caliber design team, and high-end design projects with exceptional attention to detail.
• Must be able to comprehend and review client program narratives, must understand fundamentals of space planning and adjacencies, and must be able to ensure adherence to overall program parameters as defined by client.
• Must be able to communicate visually through excellent drawing ability and/or illustration.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, comprehend, and compose complex instructions, correspondence, and memorandum. Ability to author correspondence as per the aforementioned. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to wide-tanging audience types.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide with accuracy necessary to understand and coordinate complex technical documents and specifications as part of the design, documentation, and construction process.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple and complex instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Essential duties for this position include but not limited to the following: able to work within a variety of climates. Safely lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds on occasions as well as sit for up to 90% of the workday. Repetitive bending, kneeling, stooping, pushing and pulling will potentially be required throughout shift. Exposed to potentially hazardous conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When on a project site, the noise level increases to loud. When on a project site, employees are required to comply with all contractor-imposed safety procedures.
Due to the at-times unanticipated changes within the design and development process, nature of the design industry, Employees must be able to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the company. Extensive travel will be intermittent and requires the employee to have the necessary documentation to enable international travel.
